Kelly Mason is a successful published author. She has written several series, including the Branden Bay Paranormal Cafe, the Lady Ellen Investigates series, and the Cotswold Coven series.

When Kelly was younger, she always loved Scooby-Doo. She then moved on to reading, in particular the works of Enid Blyton. Her favorite series to read was The Famous Five. Now that she is all grown up, Kelly says that her favorite author is M.C. Beaton, as she really enjoys her series Agatha Raisin.

Kelly usually prefers to write romance stories using a different pen name. Now she is turning her focus to the cozy mystery genre, a genre that she really likes to write in. What she writes is inspired by the same town by the sea that she resides in. Located on England’s South West coast, she also is occasionally inspired by ghostly dreams and her three cats, all of whom are sassy and were stray cats. That is, before she chose to name them and let them come in the house through the back door.

Main character Becky James is looking at the mess she has inherited and she simply cannot believe it. She used to work as a receptionist, but decided to move locations after a breakup in her life that was pretty bad. Her grandmother has recently passed away, and she has moved into the home to get a fresh start in life.

The only problem is that the new home is not as charming as it appears to be. Becky quickly finds that there are shadow figures lurking in the hall, haunting it. She now knows that she can actually see people who are dead, and she’s pretty sure that it’s not just her imagination.

Becky is also a little freaked out to realize that when it comes to the dead, she can not only see them but communicate with them too. She’s shocked but she also finds the souls to be a little annoying. Becky decides that the best thing that she can do is to try and tune them out. She’s trying to have a reset in her life and get back to a restful way of living, but this is making it very difficult.

Then Becky finds out that there’s a mystery afoot that has yet to be solved. If she can just solve the mystery then maybe she will be able to do something about the ghosts that are all around. Then she finds a stray cat that can see ghosts too, as well as a long line of ghosts that goes down the way.

Becky wants to think that solving the disappearance of a young girl will end up helping to make a way to a quiet and peaceful home. That may be the key to it all, but of course, there is no way to be sure. There are spirits everywhere that you turn. Now Becky is about to become an amateur supernatural investigator. Even though she has no real idea what she’s doing, she figures that it can’t be that hard.

Can Becky break through the learning curve and start to figure out what she’s doing? Will she be let down by attempting to solve this mystery, or will she discover to her delight that she has a certain talent in this field that she can put to good use? It’s anybody’s guess what is going to happen in this wonderful cozy mystery story. Becky isn’t going to let the ghosts stop her, and she opens up her new cafe. There she also employs her charming cat Constance and her sassy nature to pull in customers that just can’t help themselves from going near the feline.

The peaceful and fulfilling life that she has started soon finds an interruption that was not wanted when the corpse of a man is found washed up on the shore. That was not in the plans, and the coroner examining the body rules that it is a suicide.

However, the widow of the victim believes that it was murder. Becky also starts to think that it’s murder, especially when she finds that the ghost of the victim is sticking around and deciding to haunt her too. She decides that it’s time to go undercover, but she soon finds herself in plenty of danger as well as potentially being one of the suspects in the process.

Will Becky be able to prove that she is not the killer? Can she clear her name and make sure that no one else actually thinks that she did this dastardly deed? Will this amateur sleuth be able to show that the killer is still out there and track him down herself? Do the ghosts want to help her, or can she solve this case without them?
