Jaime Zollars is an author and illustrator best known for her children’s fiction works. She was still very young when she embarked on her career in art, even though it would not be until she was in the second grade that she began getting some traction.
This was the time she began drawing on “Trapper Keepers” that belonged to friends for shiny nickels. When Jaime was in high school, he saw a Print magazine issue with illustrations of “The Stinky Cheese Man.”

It was at that time that she came to realize that children’s fiction could be the exciting and new work that she wanted to do. Nonetheless, she had always been drawn to pictures and always knew that she would make a living doing it one way or another.
Jaime would go on to draw elaborate campaign ephemera for student council elections and even draw brochures for the local library.

Needing to become a professional, she went to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and got a photography bachelor’s degree after spending seven years in college.
In 2003, she graduated from the Art Center College of Design with a BFA in Illustration.

After graduating from college, Jaime Zollars’s first illustration job was not so easy to come by.

While she waited to get her first job, she worked on movie sets as an extra and tried out for every imaginable game show, and went on beach runs whenever she could since she then lived in Los Angeles.

After appearing in at least five game shows, she finally got a job as an illustrator. Jaime has been an illustrator for ad campaigns, children’s books, newspapers, and magazines.

She has worked with some prestigious clients such as L.A. Weekly, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Quarry Books, United Airlines, Clarion Books, Random House, Scholastic, Simon and Schuster, and The American Red Cross.
Zollars has also created artwork for galleries such as Giant Robot, Gallery Nucleus, and Copro Nason. Her work has over the years been recognized by societies and prestigious publications.

She has been critically acclaimed in Creative Quarterly, Taschen’s Illustration Now, Small Magazine, American Illustration, BBC’s Culture Shock, and Communication Arts.

Jaime Zollars finds much of her inspiration from Flemish painters and fairy tales, forgotten paper, nonfiction books, flea market photographs, and found textures.

Jaime currently makes her home in California’s Newbury Park, where she lives with her dashing husband and their two kids.

While she was living in Baltimore, she had the fortune of tutoring young upcoming superstars in art in both the undergraduate and MFA programs at The Maryland Institute College of Art.
She has been a member of several boards such as “The Illustration Conference,” “The Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles,” and “The Los Angeles SCBWI.”

When she is not painting gallery walls or working with commercial clients, she can often be found eating eclairs, taking an improv class, making mechanical paper toys, reading up on North Korea, and driving her kids to various activities.
Jaime Zollars published her debut work of fiction “The Truth About Dragons” in 2020, 18 months after she began querying with Stephen Barr her agent.
By the time she sold her debut, she was already forty years old and only regrets that she did not start earlier.

Jaime Zollars’s “The Truth About Dragons” is an intense and mesmerizing picture book about the anxiety and excitement of a new experience. It is all about a castle full of dragons that might not be what they seem to be.
The work opens with a young girl cautiously approaching a castle filled with roaring, soaring dragons and she cannot help but be worried about their sharp teeth and wildness.

Of course, the dragons are noisy and hungry and are moving closer with each passing minute. But then she realizes that several are sporting mismatched socks, some sit quietly in the corner while some play tambourines.
Could there be more to the feisty creatures that she first believed?

“The Truth About Dragons” is a remarkable work as every page the child turns will reveal a different type of dragon that soon becomes a friend.
Inspired by Jaime’s daughter, the work is an encouragement to young readers to look beyond their fears, and by doing so, they can find some surprising truths about their inner dragons.

“Greenglass House” by Jaime Zollars is a new standalone mystery that tells of family secrets, ghosts, a crew of young detectives, and kidnapping.

At the opening of the novel, Marzana and her best friend could not have been more bored. While they make their home in a city in which normal rules are never applied, they find that hardly anything interesting ever happens when it comes to their lives.
But suddenly things turn interesting when Marzana’s parents are asked to help with solving a bizarre case and she knows there is no better chance to get some excitement into their lives.

He brings together a bunch of kids with investigative skills including a ship captain’s daughter who happens to be a ghost.

Together, they go on an exploration quest and traverse a city that changes overnight as they try to get to the bottom of the identity of the kidnapped and where they could be hiding in the massive city.

Suspicious teachers, legendary smugglers, and some all-around bad guys are just but a few of the obstacles the kids have to deal with while trying to find the truth about themselves and their families in this very richly imagined and smart story.

“The Thief Knot” is a work set at the “Greenglass House” during winter.

It is an old rickety inn used by smugglers that is always very quiet and empty during this time of the year.

Given that there is hardly anything going on the innkeeper’s adopted son the twelve-year-old Milo intends to spend much of his holidays relaxing.
But on the very first night of his vacation, he hears the ring bell announcing a guest.

Soon there is another ring, then another, and another that the inn is soon full of secretive and odd guests who each tell a bizarre story connected to the ancient rambling house.
With tempers flaring and objects going missing, the cook’s daughter Meddy and Milo need to untangle a web of intricate mysteries and decipher some hard clues to learn the truth about themselves and Greenglass House.
