Jane Adams is a British writer of psychological thrillers known for writing the Naomi Blake book series, the Rina Martin book series, the Ray Flower series, the Henry Johnstone book series, and the Detective Royzlyn Priest series. The first novel she wrote, The Greenway, was released in 1995 and went on to be nominated for a John Creasey Award.
Adams was born in 1960 in Leicester. She was once lead vocalist in a folk rock band. She finisher her college career with a degree in sociology. Jane is happily married with two children and the family still lives in Leicester, the city where she was born.
Jane describes herself as a person with vivid imagination. She has said that her writing feels like a kind of compulsion as her mind is full of ideas and stories that she want to grab hold of and pin down onto the page. Like most writers Jane says that she enjoys the process of writing most of the time, but sometimes she would rather do something else.
She made the decision to start her writing career when her youngest child went to school. She felt that she suddenly had a lot of spare time when her son was in school and her mind was full with ideas that she wanted to write about. This made her decide to start writing novels. The first novel she wrote, named The Greenway, was very successful. The book was picked up by Macmillan Publishers in 1994 and published in 1995.
Mourning the Dead is the first book in the Naomi Blake series of books. The story begins with the disappearance of young Helen Jones twenty-three years ago. There was no trace of her and the girl was never found. In the present day, a letter has been found that contains a confession. This discovery has come to light at the same time as another young girl has gone missing.
Naomi Blake was her best friend as a child and was actually the last person to see her alive. The two young girls were inseparable and had a fight on the morning of her disappearance, a fact that Naomi never forgave herself for. The situation led Naomi to go on to become a policewoman. However, an accident left her blinded and she’s since left the force. She’s not about to let that stop her in finding out the truth about her childhood best friend.
The Naomi Blake book series continues with Touching the Dark. The story begins with Tally Palmer, a successful international celebrity professor, who breaks up with her boyfriend Simon. No one who knows her is surprised, but Simon is left devastated and becomes obsessed with her. Simon begins to blame someone named Jack from Tally’s past for the breakup and he begins acting somewhat unhinged. His parents are worried for him and they look to Alec and Naomi for help. Simon’s state will draw them into a complex and dangerous situation that is much more than they could’ve known going in.
Another great book in the Naomi Blake series is Gregory’s Game. The story begins with Alec at his lowest after a car crash that nearly killed him and a recovery that has left him feeling empty. The same thing is true of Gregory, a soldier and mercenary, who is struggling to find some meaning in his life. Naomi and the two men are drawn into action after a brutal murder and the kidnapping of a mother and child. The man was tortured and killed for seemingly no reason, and the race to find the woman and her child is on.
The Henry Johnstone series begins with The Murder Book. The series takes place in Lincolnshire, England in the year 1928. The story begins when three freshly buried bodies are discovered in the front yard of a rented cottage. DCI Henry Johnstone is summoned from London to investigate. They are able to identify two of the victims, a prostitute and her young daughter, but the third remains a mystery man. Johnstone will have to do things by the book and use the most modern methods to solve the case. Frustrated with his progress, his case load gets bigger when he is called to investigate yet another murder.
Death Scene is the second book in the Henry Johnstone series. Cissie Rowe was a story of the silent screen and is considered to have a bright future ahead of her as an actress. Unfortunately, she will never live to see that future as she has been murdered and found in her home. Johnstone is called onto the case in the town of Shoreham-by-Sea which is well known for the thriving theatrical community. Someone here wanted her dead and Johnstone and DS Mickey Hitchens will begin their investigation.
Adams is also the author of the Detective Rozlyn Priest book series which begins with Bury Me Deep. We meet Royzlyn at a graveyard where she is looking for old bones, but instead finds the body of Charlie Higgins. He was a petty criminal who helped her in the past, but now he’s dead. The question is why was he murdered? And why was the crime down with a spear that looks like it was from the Dark Ages? Roz sets out to find the truth and ends up seeing things – specifically, visions of a flame-haired Saxon warrior.
Another series by Adams is the Rina Martin series. The book series kicks off with A Reason to Kill. Rina is a former actress who has since retired to the sleepy town of Frantham. She’s not the only one too. DI Sebastian McGregor is also looking to recover from an injury here while young George Park and his family are hiding here on the run from their violent past. They all think that they have found sanctuary here, but they are all wrong.
