Margaret Dickinson is a Sagas and historical fiction author from Lincolnshire. The author published “Pride of the Courtney’s” her first novel in 1968 and then went on to become one of the most prolific authors in the genre.
Dickinson now has more than forty works to her name across several series, single-standing novels, several omnibuses, and a collection of short stories alongside Mary Wood, Diane Allen, Pam Weaver, Annie Murray, and Rita Bradshaw.

Dickinson was born in Gainsborough but when she was seven, her family moved to Chapel St Leonards, a suburb of Skegness where she would spend most of her childhood and young adulthood.
Margaret went to Skegness Grammar School and upon graduation, she was admitted to Lincoln Technical College.

Thereafter, she worked a variety of office jobs and never left Lincolnshire. It is for this reason that she would decide to set most of her works in and around Lincolnshire.
As for writing, it was something that she always desired to do since she was in her early teenage years. She finally achieved her dream of getting published in 1968 and never looked back since.
Surprisingly, she published most of her works under Robert Hale, a London publisher that did not have any connections to Lincolnshire.

By the time the 90s rolled around, Margaret Dickinson began penning paperbacks based around Lincolnshire on the advice of Darley Anderson her agent.

Darley who has been her agent for more than twenty-five years happens to be the agent for very popular authors such as John Connelly and Lee Child.

Darley believed that since she had a huge seven-year gap since her last book, she should write a regional saga that would be more relatable and recognizable to people who knew it.
The first regional saga she penned was the Gibraltar Point and Church Farm Museum-inspired “Plough the Furrow.” It turned out to be a very popular work and due to public demand, Margaret decided to make it into a trilogy.

As a full-time author, Margaret Dickinson now spends most of her time writing and does not have the time to focus on anything else. Nonetheless, she has a few hobbies such as color painting, which she has been doing more of now that she is getting older.
While she initially used to do a book every year, it is becoming harder to do that which means she needs to put all her attention on her writing.

When she takes a break from watercolors and writing, she loves to read a lot though, for the most part, this is for research. For her personal recreation needs, she usually reads her favorite crime fiction authors.

Margaret Dickinson’s novel “Plough the Furrow” is set in Lincolnshire and introduces Esther Everatt. She is desperate for a place to say and some work after she was banished by her family.

She walks overnight to arrive at Sam Brumby’s farm asking for a job. Reluctantly, he gives her a job but on a trial basis. But Esther is a woman that can work as hard as any man and it is not long before he earns her employer’s grudging affection and respect.
At last, she is feeling that she found a place she can call home. But her security and peace are cruelly shattered when her boss passes on. As a woman, it is illegal for her to inherit the lease on the farm.
Esther believes that her life is tied to the farm and having a place she can call home. She thus makes preparations to risk everything by marrying a local farmhand so that she can secure her future.

But when war breaks out, Esther learns that only true love could survive the changing seasons. It is an intriguing work set in the backdrop of a sea-sprayed, flat windswept countryside that will have you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last.

“Sow the Seed” by Margaret Dickinson is a work set in England in 1926. The lead in the novel is a twelve-year-old girl named Kate Hilton, who has just been informed that she will be sent to boarding school presently.
She hates that she will have to leave her home and Danny her best friend. Her mother’s intent is to ensure she is separated from Danny who she has never liked.

She hates the conditions at Boarding school and ultimately runs off to be found by her grandfather, cold, wet, and close to suffering from pneumonia.

There has always been a lot of secrecy about her supposed grandfather but no one ever wanted to tell her the truth about him.

On her eighteenth birthday, she announces that she intends to marry Danny and this is when the truth comes out and she discovers that she could never marry her sweetheart.
Heartbroken by the new revelations, She leaves to go become a diver in the WAAF following the outbreak of war.

In the destruction and chaos of war, Kate experiences many things including loss, suffering, and pain. But the big question is will the two ever move on and be able to find love?

“Repeat the Harvest” is another brilliant work by Margaret Dickinson. The “Fleethaven Point” series debuted by telling Esther’s story then that of ate her daughter and now finishes with that of Ella the granddaughter.
After the East Coast floods of 1953, Ella who has been left an orphan goes to live on Brumby’s farm with Esther her grandmother. The two share a feeling of antagonism given that they are both so determined and stubborn.
Apart from a young man named Rob who works as a laborer on a neighboring farm and her beloved grandfather, Ella feels unloved and ultimately heads back to Lincoln.

The major theme of the work is the gradual unearthing of some decades-old secrets that had been in the family through several generations.

When Ella learns that both of her grandparents are ailing and the land is in a state of neglect, she decides to take charge of everything. In doing so, she finally discovers that her heart has always been at home in Lincolnshire.
