Eugenia Riley
Eugenia Riley grew up in rural South Texas as a preacher’s child, and spent much of her youth playing the piano, climbing trees, writing poetry, and reading each and every classical adventure story that she could get her hands on. As a lover of history, she lived her life inside of her own imagination.
Eugenia is a magna cum laude graduate of Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas, is a former English teacher and editor of TOUCHSTONE Literary Quarterly. She is the winner of the Holt Medallion for “Waltz in Time” for Best Book with a Southern Theme.
After college, she began writing passionate romances about spirited heroines that meet tormented heroes, and find true love and healing together. She has written for publishers including Warner, Avon, Dorchester, Harlequin, and Bantam. She’s also launched e-book imprints of her own, Eugenia Riley Originals and Eugenia Riley Classics.
“Tempest in Time” is the first novel in the “Time Travel Romance” series and was released in 1993. Two brides switch places in time. Mismatched brides. Missy Monroe, in modern Memphis, Tennessee, has found the perfect fiance in genteel and gorgeous Jeff Dalton, a guy she can control in every way possible, and who bores her to tears.
Her distant cousin, back in antebellum Memphis, the demure and shy Melissa Montgomery, has been promised since birth to Fabian Fontenot, who is arrogant and virile, a man whose fierce sensuality scares the starch right out of her crinoline. Melissa and Missy plan their weddings in the exact same house, on the same day, just 140 years apart.
Tumble in time. Who would ever think that one misstep on the stairs could possibly lead to such a crazy tempest in time? One minute the brides are descending down the stairs in order to marry their fiances, and the next, they’re swapping places in time.
All of a sudden Missy finds herself trapped in a provincial outpost of the antebellum South, while the presumed fiancee of the most insufferable and sinfully handsome man in history. And Melissa finds she’s thrust into this bewildering and amazing new world, where she’s just too happy to exchange her beast of a fiance for the gallant soulmate that has now replaced him.
Are these two mismatched and switched brides going to find some happiness with their destined grooms? Or will the fickle hand of Fate wreak some havoc with them again?
This one’s an all time keeper in the time travel romance genre, as it is a full length, sexy, and hilarious romp through the present and past which gives new meaning to the phrase, “The first step is a doozy!”
Eugenia spins this brilliantly woven web, and ensnares readers with her ingenious plot twists, some endearing characters, and quite the unforgettable love story. This is a captivating and uniquely written time travel novel that will keep you flipping the pages. It was nominated as Best Time Travel by Affaire de Coeur and The Talisman.
“Bushwhacked Bride” is the first novel in the “Bushwhacked in Time” series and was released in 1999. Jessica Garrett, a history professor, is visiting a modern day dude ranch in Colorado. She’s appalled to discover herself getting shanghaied back in time, being plucked off of an Old West style stagecoach by this gang of five real outlaw brothers from the Wild West.
Tossed over a horse and being carried away, she listens in horror while these devilishly handsome desperadoes fight over her. Then back at the ranch, her captors’ crazy mom, Ma Reklaw, whacks the tar outta her brood with her infamous broom even while promising Jessica’s hand in marriage to the one son able to prove himself as the most “mannerly” of her ill-bred clan.
Five brothers! She cannot believe what’s happened to her. She’s stuck back in time, being relentlessly pursued by these five unruly rogues that are determined to win her favors. However it is the beguiling and dark leader of this gang, named Cole Reklaw, who quickly steals her attentions as well as her heart. Unlike his younger siblings that would wed her eagerly, Cole brazenly offers up his bed to her just not his name.
Can she find a way to her own time, or is her budding love for Cole alter her destiny forever? And can she possibly perform a miracle which will reform these five wayward scoundrels and their cantankerous mom before they each get carted off to the hanging tree?
This is one of Eugenia’s most beloved time travel romances. It’s a wild, steamy, and hilarious romp back in time to the Wild West.
“Brazos Bend Bride” is the first novel in the “Ashland Women” series and was released in 2017. A shattering and powerful story about a tortured hero and his captive bride. Emilie Barrett is penniless and alone in the wild frontier town of Houston, until David Ashland shows up, offering her a job as companion to this young woman that lives at his uncle’s cotton plantation. Emilie, who is half in love with her gallant rescuer, accepts.
However she arrives at Brazos Bend to find herself being immediately pursued by the mercurial master of the estate, Edgar Ashland, who is David’s tormented uncle. Edgar, arrogant and handsome, is a notorious recluse with a horrible temper. He’s also the most sexy, masterful, and compelling that Emilie has ever met, and Edgar seems to be equally enthralled by her. To her horror, he soon maneuvers her into a marriage.
She finds herself being a new bride that is trapped in a house filled with secrets with her mysterious bridegroom. Edgar’s passions are just as turbulent and fierce as the demons that haunt him from his first marriage, and the scars left from the Texas War for Independence. Why did his first wife pass away? And who is it that didn’t want Emilie to stay in this house? Falling hopelessly in love with her enigma of a husband, she realizes she’ll need to tame the beast in Edgar before the ghosts from his past destroy both of them.
