About Alex Archer:

Located in Toronto, Harlequin Enterprises, often releases romantic books targeted towards women. For avid readers who love a strong, dominant, female character, Rogue Angel may be the perfect series. Consisting of over 40 volumes, this series features the story of Annja Creed who portrays a polymath with an inclination to run into trouble due to her being linked to the Joan of Arc.

The Creation of Rogue Angel

Rogue Angel novels are issued twice per month to suit readers with an unquenchable thirst for knowledgable. Though this book series is written by multiple authors, including Mel Odom, Victor Milan, and Jon F. Merz, credits are given to the house name Alex Archer. This system of writing allows Harlequin Enterprises to create a series in which each volume can be read separately and consecutive reading is not required.

The first volume of this fantasy series was released in the year 2006, and ever since, the production of Rogue Angel has remained strong and continues to feed readers’ insatiable desire for adventures with Annja Creed.

“ Destiny ” (2006)

In “ Destiny, ” the very first issue of the Rogue Angel series, archaeologist, Annja Creed meets more than what she expected. While exploring the caves of France, she learns about the Beast of Gevaudan. Also known as “ La bete du Gevaudan, ” this historical beast is known to much of the French population as a large human eating wolf. This beast is actually very well known. Sources claim that this particular family of wolves has been terrorizing the French communities since the 1700s. With over 210 recorded attacks and an estimated 113 deaths, the story of the Beast of Gévaudan leads the modern day Joan of Arc to discover secret artifacts that make her a highly wanted target. With a league of monks attempting to assassinate Annja as she runs through Europe, “ Destiny, ” does not disappoint first time readers and will create a devout fan of the series.

“ Solomon’s Jar ” (2006)

Though the first issue is action-packed with wolves, monks, and historical artifacts, the second installment does not disappoint. Alex Archer’s “ Solomon’s Jar ” is exactly what many readers are looking for. In this issue, Annja finds herself in trouble, once again, when she hears through the grapevine that King Solomon’s jar has been discovered. The same King Solomon who was recorded about extensively in the Bible somehow seeps into Annja’s life. The jar is rumored to have stored the same demons that built King Solomon’s temple in Jerusalem. The entrance of King Solomon’s jar sends Annja on a chase from the Middle East all the way to Brazil. Featuring Biblical references, battles with London cults, and a journey around the world, “ Solomon’s Jar ” will continue to ignite fans’ interest in the Rogue Angel series.

THE CHARACTERS

Annja Creed

Annja Creed seems to simply be shackled to her own history. As the heir to Joan of Arc’s sword, the same sword that was present when Joan of Arc was publicly burned for her acts. The sword grants Annja with powers that most do not have such as the ability to recover and heal herself.

Growing up in an orphanage, Annja’s personal history remains a mystery to her throughout many of the novels. This lack of self identification leads Annja to constantly seek knowledge of her own history as well as the general history of the world. Annja develops herself into a multitalented and recognized archaeologist. Earning a full scholarship through college and studying anthropology amongst other history related subjects, Annja becomes successful to the point that David Letterman calls her to her show. After this appearance on the show, Annja is offered to act as the host of a television show, Chasing History’s Monsters. Though she dislikes this job, it allows her to retain the salary she needs to feed her thirst for historical knowledge and return to her home in Brooklyn, New York, without having to worry about her financial situations.

Roux

Living right outside of Paris, Roux acts as a sort of mentor to Annja Creed. Though he appears to be in his sixties, Roux is over five hundred years old. With his quirky hobbies, Roux still loves his Texas Hold-em Poker and a good game of golf. Roux is often more deceptive than he appears and utilizes a Machiavellian approach to fulfill his own needs that may or may not come into conflict with Annja’s. The protagonist, Annja, often finds herself in conflict with Roux because Roux is often chasing artifacts that are purported to have magical powers.

Garin Braden

Garin is Roux’s ex-apprentice over five hundred years ago. Standing at over six foot, with a masculine body, and charming looks, Garin is now arrogant and filthy rich. He is depicted almost as Roux’s rival in many volumes because as the years have gone by, Garin has slowly fueled a fire of contempt for his old master. Because Garin must destroy the sword of Joan of Arc, he often finds himself in direct conflict with Annja Creed, the heir to the sword. However, Garin is revealed by Alex Archer to have a soft spot in him as he develops a respect for Annja and her quests.

Adaptations

The majority of Rogue Angel series are available in audio with professional voice actors from GraphicAudio. Additionally, IDW publishing, in the year 2008, began to create comic adaptations of the journeys of Annja Creed. In these comic books, Annja Creed is often depicted as a tan, tall, black haired woman often wielding a sword — the sword of Joan of Arc.

The Story Formula

Generally, the Rogue Angel series follows a predictable, but suitable plot that allows the younger audience to deeply engage, while catering to a specific target audience. Usually, Annja Creed finds or hears of knowledge of a historical artifact or legend that makes her highly wanted through a string of other people with similar interests.

Availability

Many of the Rogue Angel books are available on various online stores such as Amazon through paperback, Kindle, or even audiobook versions. The books can also be found at a local book store or larger book companies such as Barnes and Nobles and the like.

Why has the series not had any new books recently? If the series had a good following why not continue it?
