Christi Daugherty is a former crime reporter turned bestselling author best known for the “Harper McClain” series of novels. The author also pens young adult works as C.J. Daugherty under which she penned the very popular “Night School” series.
The author was just twenty-two when she started working in Texas as a crime reporter which is when she saw her first dead body.

While she is no longer part of the crime reporting world, she has remained fascinated with the things that make people do awful things. She also likes to showcase the world of law enforcement officers who do their best to stop them.
Daugherty published “The Echo Killing,” her first adult novel in 2018 under St. Martins and HarperCollins. Over the years, her works have been translated into more than two dozen languages and have been best-selling works in many countries across the world.

While Daugherty was born in the United States she has been living in the United Kingdom for so long that she now deems herself British.

Christi currently lives with Jack Jewers, her BAFTA-nominated filmmaker and husband.

Daugherty became a journalist since she could not think of anything else she could do except write. She worked as a journalist for many years and would then turn to freelance writing by accident since her paper was shut down.
She would then turn into an editor almost as if by accident when she was offered a job when she was very desperate. Ultimately, her editor job also came to an end when the magazine became defunct and she found a job working for the British government.

As a person that has been born in America, working as a civil servant for the British government always seemed very strange.

She was then working in the middle of Westminster and used to have all manner of meetings with her superiors at Number 10 Downing Street.

While it was a weird time in her life, she remembers thinking that she just had to write a book about the world she was living in. Nonetheless, Daugherty could not write nonfiction works about her work since there were rules.
She ultimately decided to pen her experiences as fiction which was what birthed the “Night School” series that she penned under the pseudonym C.J. Daugherty.

Christi Daugherty has said that her experiences working as a crime reporter and on No 10 Downing Street have had a huge influence on her career as a fiction author.

When she worked reporting crime in New Orleans and Savannah, she got very close to all manner of crime scenes. Crime reporters in the US can get very close to the crime scene, as long as they get to the scene before the police tape it off.
This meant that Christi wrote a lot about violent crimes and encountered much violence. As such, she learned about death very early on and separated her emotions from it, even as she developed her powers of observation.

She was paid to be the ears and eyes of the readers of her paper and all these experiences probably were stored in someplace dangerous and dark in her brain.

When she ultimately decided to become a fiction author, it was simply a matter of going back to the archives and organizing what she had stored to write her blockbuster works.

In this regard, politics, crime, and murder often find their way into her novels.

“The Echo Killing” by Christi Daugherty is set in Savannah, a city of cobblestone streets, picturesque parks, and antebellum architecture that always moves at a graceful pace.

However, the timeless culture and beauty that makes the Southern city so distinctive vanishes during dangerous and dark nights.

But Harper McClain loves her city even if it robbed her of her other through a brutal murder when she was just twelve.

The killer had never been arrested and the cold case had left Harper obsessed with a crime that she ultimately became one of the leading crime reporters in Georgia.

She now spends her nights searching for criminals with the police and her days writing out reports. Her latest case leads her to the scene of a murder with some hauntingly familiar details.

A naked female victim was led from the scene by a detective after she was stabbed several times but there is no evidence that could lead to a suspect.

It is very similar to her own mother’s death and that of a woman named Marie Whitney. This makes her believe that they could be victims of the same killer.

Christi Daugherty’s novel “A Beautiful Corpse” is once again set in Savannah with its ancient oak trees, and antebellum houses that have made it famous all over the globe.

When there is a brutal murder in the wealthier part of the city, the whole city is left in shock. But for Harper McClain, the crime reporter, the dead woman’s face is too familiar, making this case personal.
Naomi Scott was a twenty-four-year-old law student who wanted to change the world even as she tended bar to make ends meet.

But then she is killed by an unseen gunman on a particularly dark night. The biggest problem is that there are no witnesses even though the police have three suspects.

There is her boyfriend who claims to be a reformed criminal, her boss that had been accused of stalking her two years earlier, and the son of the district attorney who she had dated before an acrimonious end to their relationship.
Savannah is demanding answers and Harper soon discovers a tangled web of jealousy and obsession. However, the pressure is more than just resolving the murder, as her job is on the line and she believes someone is watching all her moves.

“Revolver Road” by Christy Daugherty is set in Savannah during the February chill. Harper McClain is hiding far away on Tybee Island rather than enjoying the graceful mansions and towering oaks of the historical city.

She had fled after she was warned that there was someone who wanted her dead. The caller seemed to know all about her life and had specific details about the plan to kill her, so she could not ignore the warning.

She finds escape working at the newspaper investigating the disappearance of a singer named Xavier Rayne. He had a hit album and was set to embark on a tour when he had gone missing after walking to the beach near his home.

According to the police, the man had more likely drowned even though Harper is of a different mind. His girlfriend and bandmates say this has happened before and believe he will ultimately come back home until his body turns up riddled with bullets.
But the more McClain investigates the more she puts her life in danger.
