Early and Personal Life
Hailing from Boston in Massachusetts, Eric LaRocca would grow up with a clear love and passion for the written word. Taking much from his own life, he’d put it all back into his work and writing, creating his own voice and distinctive style in the process. Largely focusing on horror and dark fiction, he would find his own approach within this genre, allowing him to make his own way forwards.
Often dealing with themes and ideas of the macabre, he draw heavily from the world around him, putting it back into his fiction. Keenly interested in fashion and European musical theatre, he’s got a range of interests that help to influence and inspire him as a writer. Currently living and working in Boston to this very day, he’s got a to more yet to come, as there’s no signs he’s stopping any time soon.
Writing Career
As a writer, Eric LaRocca has never been known to hold back when it comes to his craft, and articulating himself as an artist. His first novella would arrive back in 2020, and it was titled ‘Starving Ghosts in Every Thread,’ and it would be a stand-alone horror novel. With a clear sense of the macabre, he would soon go on to write another novella titled ‘Thing Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke.’
He would also write poetry, with the collection ‘Fanged Dandelion’ coming out in 2021, along with numerous short-stories and collections. In 2022 he would write the full novel ‘You’ve Lost a Lot of Blood,’ followed by ‘Everything the Darkness Eats’ in 2023, both of which would be stand-alone horror titles. Writing alongside other fellow authors as well, such as Gemma Amor and Patrick Barb, he’s contributed to various different collections as well.
You’ve Lost a Lot of Blood
First published in 2022 this would come out on the 11th of March through the Eric LaRocca’s own publishing imprint. Not part of any series as such, it would be another stand-alone horror novel, with its own self-contained narrative contained within. The book would be a combination of horror and mystery that is difficult to categorize, although its does contain LaRocca’s unique brand of the macabre that fans have become so familiar with.
Following several main characters, the book itself is a novella within a novella, the intertwining narrative plays with reader perception. There’s an element of body horror, making it definitely one for the less squeamish, as it’s fairly graphic when it needs to be with its dark and foreboding narrative. Much of it is more suggestive though, with a twisting psychological narrative that has elements of mystery sprinkled throughout. Keeping the reader constantly guessing, the plot itself comes almost secondary, as the world of the novel itself feels so alive.
It’s difficult book to explain, which is part of what makes it so wonderful and engrossing, with a plot that’s more about atmosphere. Creating an extremely evocative ambiance, the book envelops the reader, pulling them in to its dark and twisted world. There’s a novella within the story itself, making for an intensely enigmatic read that’s difficult to put down, making for more than compelling reading.
Everything the Darkness Eats
Originally brought out through the ‘CLASH Books’ publishing house, this would first arrive on the 6th of June in 2023. Another stand-alone title, it would also provide a horror mystery story, with an strong element of cosmic horror this time. The book can be read on its own, and is sure to keep readers guessing, as there’s a twist and turn on each and every page.
Set in the small-town of Henley’s Edge in Connecticut, this sees evil lurking there, waiting for the unsuspecting after a string of mysterious disappearances. Hatred begins to bubble to the surface as tensions rise, with deals made and pact drawn between those living there within the town. Within Mr. Heart Crowley’s cellar a darkness lurks, just waiting to creep out, with few resisting, while others succumb to the darkness. Who will fall into the dark, can they survive this ordeal, and what will finally become of everything the darkness eats?
As always, the writing from LaRocca is truly impeccable, as he never manages to waste a single word on syllable. Every element of the story is detailed fully, although he also makes sure to never give too much away, always building an air of suspense. One of the foremost writers in the world of horror fiction, it’s easy to see why he’s so well liked, with his audience growing day-by-day.
