Beginning her literary career back in May 2016, Chencia C. Higgins would start her career by publishing an erotic novella. Seeking to have a writing career where she told romance stories centering around black women, she would soon find a lot of success. As an integral part of the self-published indie community, she has fast found a loyal following of readers, with her books growing in popularity every day. Maintaining a presence both online and off, she also writes alongside other fellow writers, as more and more readers discover her work with every passing day.

Originally published on the 25th of October in 2020, this would come out through the Kindle publishing platform. It’s romance novella, and it’s the first part in the ‘Boos and Booze’ series of novels, as each book is set around the Sapphire Springs Fall Festival. Each of the novellas are also written by a different author, as they all provide their own romance story taking place during the annual event.

Set around the annual Fall Festival taking place in Sapphire Springs, and it’s two days of fun and festivities, with the adults-only costume ball taking place on the Saturday night. Looking forward to the event and Halloween for once, Dionne Austin’s event planning company has been tasked with overseeing the costume ball. Seeing this as a huge opportunity and stepping-stone, she won’t let her ex get in the way any more, but soon bad and mysterious events start happening making her feel extremely superstitious. Can she see that ball takes place without a hitch, is something else at play here, and just what is the truth of the costume cutty?

It’s an uplifting story with some more serious subject matter underlying it when mentioning the difficulties Dionne faced in her past. The book itself is only a short novella, making it a fast and engaging read, being quick and easy to pick up, reading it in a short space of time. It also features strong leading characters, making it ideal for both fans of the author, as well as of the genre itself as a whole.

Love on the Luminous

First brought out on the Kindle publishing platform, this would come out back in 2020 on the 24th of Match to much acclaim. It would also be the first in ‘The Luminous Cruise Chronicles’ series, setting up a new collection of self-contained romance novels. Each book takes place on ‘The Luminous’ cruise, and they all feature their own romance effectively, meaning they can easily be read in any order.

Just coming out of a decade long relationship, Morgan is looking to pick up the pieces, as she reluctantly heads off on a cruise with her sister. She then meets a man who immediately turns her head, making her think twice about not wanting to jump head first into a quick passionate affair with. That’s when there’re health concerns on land, and the ship is delayed at sea, leaving her to pursue the chemistry building between them both. Will they manage to find each other at the end of it all, can Morgan overcome the pain of the past, and what will become of their love on the luminous?

This story is an engaging one with a compelling couple at the center of it leading the way, as the reader really roots for them. Making them both easy to relate to, the story definitely manages to hit all the right beats, as it provides a fun and entertaining romance. Knowing the genre well, Higgins knows just what she’s doing and exactly where she’s going, making it a confident and addictive read.
