Early and Personal Life
Always interested in literature and reading, Gretta Mulrooney would begin to focus on the craft during her thirties seriously. Finding her voice, she would develop her overall style and tone, discovering her own unique idiosyncratic approach to the art-form. Receiving critical acclaim for her work, she would settle in to become a full-time author with something of her own to say.
Drawing much of her inspiration from the world around her, she would also be inspired by other novelists in the crime-fiction genre. Making a name for herself, she would also prove to be an extremely versatile novelist, becoming adept at numerous different styles. As she continues writing extensively from her home in the UK, she has a lot more in the pipeline as her writing career isn’t finishing any time soon.
Writing Career
Publishing her first novel back in 1993, Gretta Mulrooney would make her literary debut with the title ‘A Can of Worms.’ This title was a Young Adult book for younger readers, as she would later settle in to publishing her much loved thriller novels. Bringing out a number of stand-alone titles prior to starting her series, she would prove herself to be adept at several different genres.
In 2015 she would begin her ‘Tyrone Swift’ series of novels with the mystery ‘The Lady Vanished,’ and, in 2019, she started her ‘Detective Inspector Siv Drummond’ series with ‘The Little Lies.’ Both of these series would establish her as a mystery novelist, along with publishing collections and omnibus editions of her work as well. Maintaining a profile online, she regularly speaks on her craft, with her literary career continuing on into the foreseeable future.
Her Lost Sister
Initially brought out in 2020 on the 13th of March, this was released to a great deal of acclaim, with it being the seventh in the ‘Tyrone Swift’ series. Published through the ‘Joffe Books’ publishing imprint, it would carry on with another self-contained mystery thriller. Each book is self-contained, and they can be read in any order, although they do develop and progress the character of Tyrone Swift himself.
When two sisters are attacked on a ferry crossing the Irish Sea and one drowns, Kelly Dwyer is left without memory of the incident, while the third sister, Orla, calls in help. Seeking the assistance of detective Tyrone Swift, their distant cousin, Swift begins to investigate, learning about Kelly’s own past battling alcoholism and now in recovery. Dealing with his many own issues along the way, Swift must cope the relationships with his own ex-wife and current girlfriend. Will he manage to discover what really happened to the sisters, what took place to make Kelly forget it all, and can he discover what became of her lost sister?
It’s a strong novel with a lot to say, in what is a well written story providing a clear narrative filled with tension and suspense. The psychological make-up of the characters is also interesting, as it really draws the reader in to their world, making it deeply immersive. With an intricate narrative as well, there’s so much to offer here, in a story that really does have everything for fans not just of the author, but of the genre as a whole.
Murder in Mallow Cottage
Arriving on the Kindle platform back in 2021 on the 2nd of September, this was first published through the Kindle. This entry provides the third book in the ‘D.I. Siv Drummond’ series of mystery novels, it’s another self-contained mystery thriller. Easy to pick up, all of the books in the series can be read in any order, as they each have their mystery and story to tell.
Found dead at the local crematorium, Eugene Warren wasn’t supposed to be there, as nobody actually knew he was dead. Now Detective Siv Drummond must solve the case along with her team, but it seems that all of Eugene’s friends are also missing nowhere to be found. Tracking down his friend Henry Kilgore, they only find his car with the cryptic message ‘Remember fun at Mallow Cottage’ left behind. Will they manage to get to the bottom of the case, can they solve the clues, and who is really behind the murder at Mallow Cottage?
Providing another compelling mystery novel, it clearly displays Gretta Mulrooney doing what she does best here. Knowing her characters well at this point, the story is written with a strong sense of confidence and narrative drive running through it all. Bringing the world of the series to life once again, it engages on several different levels, making it a more than compelling read.
