S.R. Mallery is best selling American author best known for writing mystery, women’s, and historical fiction novels set in close-knit non-urban communities. Since she is a huge lover of animals her novels often feature pets.

The author was born in Los Angeles in 1970 and went on to attend Seton Hill University where she earned her master’s degree.
As a woman of many talents, she has been a composer, pop singer, and classical musician. She has also worked in calligraphy and production art and spent some time as an award-winning teacher and quilt artist.

She made her writing debut when she wrote several short stories in the “Sewing Can Be Dangerous Collection” published in 2013. In the same year, she also published her debut novel “Unexpected Gifts,” and kicked on from there.

Mallery now has more than sixteen titles to her name spread across several series, freestanding titles, and collections. She has also been a contributor to at least one series of novels.

Mallery was brought up in a family full of writers. However, for many years, writing was something she thought she would never try, even if it was the last thing left on the menu.

Susan believed it had too much pressure but over the years that perspective started to shift. It all started when she watched a movie about a writer and became so curious about that life.

One day while she was at the department store with her daughter and had a moment alone, she thought she should give storytelling a try.
Soon after, she wrote the manuscript for what would be the first story of the “Sewing Can Be Dangerous” collection. It told the story of the 1911 factory fire at “Triangle Shirtwaist.”

She had first heard the story from her father and amid the bustling chaos of customers trying out clothes and haggling prices she took out her notebook and pen and started writing.

Since she also loved history growing up, she would, later on, branch into writing historical fiction.

S.R. Mallery does a lot of research for her works, exploring the lingo, food, culture, and food of different periods, watching movies and documentaries for ambiance, and reading all manner of articles and books.

Still, her journey toward publication was not that easy as for the most part she was flying blind. After she wrote the manuscript for “Sewing Can Be Dangerous,” she got into flash fiction and was lucky enough that some literary magazines published her works.

In the meantime, she had been sending her several stories in the “Sewing Collection” to agents. Most of them replies saying they loved her stories but since they were too unique they had to reject them.

It was at that time that she changed tack and started querying smaller publishers. One of these loved the stories and particularly the draft for “Unexpected Gifts,” which would become her debut novel.

It was this publisher that would publish her very first serious works, even though she later decided to go the indie way as she loved the control and independence.

S.R. Mallery’s novel “Unexpected Gifts” is an unexpected treasure trove of historical fiction that will leave readers hankering for more.
The lead is a troubled young woman named Sonia that is in a romantic relationship with the lead singer of one of the hottest rock groups in the country.
She finds meaning and solace in life when her mother shows her some unexpected history in the form of medals, stubs, newspaper clippings, old family photos, and diaries that tells the family’s history.

Meanwhile, Sam, her father is lying disabled in bed suffering from PTSD following the Vietnam War. The young woman travels back in time, living the conflict just like her dad did, through the jungle rot, blood and guts, torrential rain, and stinking mud.

The after-effects of the lesson she attends become entrenched in her psyche and she later uses these to come up with new perspectives about her life.
Sonia also travels back in time, where she gets embroiled in race riots in the Deep South Martin Luther King, dances a marathon survives the Titanic and experiences the Great Depression.

In “The Dolan Girls,” S.R. Mallery introduces his readers to the old West from the perspective of women with secrets to keep.

Cora is a woman that comes from a famine-stricken Ireland during the potato famine. She has refused to talk about the events that happened half a dozen years ago as she has not gotten over them.

Minnie is the sister that has been by her side for years while the ten-year-old Ellie needs to survive a harsh new world that is hostile to the Irish.
The Dolan girls make their home in Nebraska where they work at the Madam Ana brothel. It is going to be tough defending themselves against the unruly customers that frequent the place.

They will need to have all their wits about them and take quick action when push comes to shove.

Following the path of three generations of Dolans, it follows them from when they settle in a new land and how this changed their lives.
It also delves into the horrific incident that shaped Cora and Minnie’s life perspectives on trust and life forever.

S.R. Mallery’s novel “Ellie & The War On Powder Creek” is a historical western novel full of action that follows the loves of Ellie Dolan and Brett her husband.

Ellie is still mourning a miscarriage following a horseback riding accident after which she was informed she may probably never have children.
At present, she is just going through the motions and this has been having a bad effect on her relationship with her husband. They had previously had a deep love but everything seems to be coming apart.

Trying to deal with their loss, Brett and Ellie get into trouble with the head of The Wyoming Stock Growers Association – a man named Sinclair.
He has recently been trying to intimidate the landowners association in the county so that he can have more control over the pastures and cattle in the territory.

Ellie who has ties to the Pinkerton Agency starts an investigation into the shadowy operation run by Sinclair and his organization. But in her quest, she puts her life in danger when Sinclair realizes that she is looking into him.

Will they be able to turn around their relationship while exposing the diabolical plans that Sinclair has for them?
