Adrienne Toolewy is an American author out of California. She made her debut as a novelist in 2021 with the release of Sweet & Bitter Magic.
She grew up in California in the desert suburbs before going to Pittsburgh to study musical theater. She made her way to New York after graduation and now makes her home in Brooklyn with her wife.
She attended Point Park University and graduated with her B.A. in Musical Theatre.
In addition to her work as an author, Adrienne is also a singer/songwriter who has released three EPs. All three of them were in the indie-folk genre.
Sweet & Bitter Magic follows Tamsin, the most powerful witch of her generation. However, she is exiled from her Coven after committing what is considered to be the worst magical sin. Worse, she is also cursed with the inability to love by the Coven. The only way to get that feeling back in her life is by stealing it from others, but it only lasts for a little while.
Wren is a source. A source is a very rare being in that they are made of magic, but unable to use it for themselves. Sources are needed to train with the Coven after discovering their abilities, but she has spent her life hiding her secret as she is needed to stay home and care for her ailing father.
Now, a magical plague is running through the kingdom and her father is one of its victims. She wishes to save her father and offers a bargain to Tamsin. If Tamsin can help her stop the dark witch that is responsible for the plague, then Wren will give to Tamsin the love that she has for her father.
However, love bargains can These two have a long and perilous journey ahead of them and will need to work together if they hope to accomplish this mission. The hardest part may be keeping the two from killing each other.
Sofi and the Bone Song is a standalone fantasy about a young musician who thinks her rival is using magic to play. Music is in her blood and her father is one of the few musicians that is licensed to compose his own original songs. There are strict anti-magic laws surrounding music in the kingdom as the powers that be wish for the art to remain untouched by the world of magic.
The young girl has spent her entire life training to take over for her father one day and it is now time for auditions. However, she gets some unexpected competition in the form of Lara. The girl had never before played the lute, but somehow puts on a performance that impresses the judges.
Lara ends up winning the title of Musik and then Sofi’s father dies. She is left grieving and decides to prove that Lara is using magic in her performances. She begins spending time with Lara to find out, but the more time she spends with her, the more she thinks that everything she knows is wrong. The girl she thought was her enemy is not what she thought and she learns that her family might not be either.
Sofi works to reclaim her place in Musik, but in order to so she needs to face the dark secrets of her past and the magic she has always been told to avoid. Sofi will try to do all that while also trying not to fall in love with Lara.
