About Ryan Winfield
Writing in a variety of different genres, the American author Ryan Winfield is well known for his engaging and in-depth fiction. Early and Personal Life
Born in 1975 on the 15th of March, Ryan Winfield would grow up in Seattle in the United States, as he would come to appreciate literature from an early age. Drawing inspiration from his own life as well as that of other writers, he’d come to develop his own distinct style from early on. This passion of his would continue throughout the years, making him the writer that he’s currently known as to this day.
Enjoying a number of different hobbies and past times over the years, he’s a writer with an active life, something which heavily inspires his work. A recreational pilot as well as extensively traveling, he’s always on the lookout for a new and exciting idea for his next new novel. Currently living in Whidbey Island near Seattle, he continues to write regularly with a lot more planned on the horizon.
Writing Career
The first novel that Ryan Winfield would publish was titled ‘South of Bixby Bridge,’ and this would be a stand-alone romantic suspense title released in 2011. Following this, he would go on to publish the ‘Park Service Trilogy,’ which was a Young Adult series of science-fiction novels. Publishing the first in the series in 2012, he’d begin the series with the novel titled ‘The Park Service,’ followed by ‘Isle of Man’ and then ‘State of Nature’ in 2013.
In the past, he’s also made various contributions to different collections too, writing alongside numerous fellow authors. Gaining plaudits from the critics, he’s also commercially successful, reaching the top of the New Time Bestseller list. Highly vocal on his craft, he continues to really speak his mind, creating numerous stories and expanding upon his impressive backlog of work.
South of Bixby Bridge
Initially released through the ‘Birch Paper Press’ publishing house, this would be the literary debut for Ryan Winfield as an author. Published in 2011 on the 15th of August, this would come out as an entirely stand-alone title with a completely self-contained narrative. A romantic-suspense novel, there are elements of a thriller story here, as it’s a character-driven plot that really makes the most of its interesting concept.
Just recently discharged from drug rehab, Trevor Roberts can only move up in the world, as he’s hit all-time rock-bottom. Becoming entangled romantically with his new boss’s wife, he finds himself on a drunken month-long ride, heading into Napa Valley. Finding himself engaged in a threesome affair, he’s drawn through his ambition into a hedonistic world that will potentially leave him in complete ruin. Will he be able to make it out in one piece, where will his journey take him next, and what will he find south of Bixby Bridge?
There’s so much here to really enjoy, as it’s a story that definitely doesn’t hold back when it comes to frank and vivid descriptions. Making his mark as a writer, Winfield made an impact upon its release for sure, really showing readers what he had to offer. Letting the characters essentially speak for themselves, this story is more than compelling and one that will keep readers glued throughout.
State of Nature
First published in 2013, this would come out on the 23rd of November through the ‘Birch Paper Press’ publishing label. It would be the final entry into the ‘Park Service Trilogy’ of novels, continuing from where the previous book, ‘Isle of Man,’ would leave off. The novels need to be read in order, as they all work together as a complete trilogy, with this being the epic conclusion.
Leaving the Isle of Man, Jimmy and Aubrey head off to confront Hannah at the Foundation as they return once more. Following her betrayal of the Holocene II and its once free people, they both hope to seek answers in what will be their final showdown. Once they get there, though, they quickly discover that everything is not quite as it once seemed, with everything changing. Will they be able to navigate this new turn of events, can they successfully make their way in this new world, and what will become of them as they face the state of nature?
A strong science-fiction novel, this makes the most of its thrilling concept, really delivering on the previous books. There are lots of surprises, and it’s sure to keep its Young Adult audience entertained every single step of the way. It’s a creative book that shows plenty of imagination in both its sense of scope and scale whilst also featuring engaging characters along the way.
