Sally Rigby is an English author best known for writing the Cavendish & Walker series of books. She is also the author of the Sebastian Clifford series. In addition to her own books, Sally also writes psychological thrillers under the name of Amanda Rigby.

Rigby was born in Northampton in the United Kingdom and lived all over England before making the decision to move overseas. She would eventually move to New Zealand where she still lives to this day and considers it to be the most beautiful place in the world. Sally has had a long love affair with crime fiction, films, and television shows. Her love of the genre really shows up in her writing.

Web of Lies is the first book in the Detective Sebastian Clifford series. The book introduces us to Sebastian Clifford a former police officer who lost his job after a scandal lead to the disbandment of his special squad in London. Now, he finds himself working as a private investigator after a a call from a cousin who wants his help proving that her husband did not kill himself. At first he is reluctant to get involved, but the more he looks in the case, the more evidence he finds that there is something more going on in this case. Sebastian has the unique ability to remember everything he’s ever seen which makes him the perfect investigator for the case.

Clifford meets up with Detective Constable Bird and she won’t give him access to the records he’s requested unless he allows her to help in his investigation. He doesn’t want to be part of a team again after what happened with the special squad, but he agrees to the terms. Now, these two must find the truth before time runs out.

The second book in the Detective Sebastian Clifford series is Speak No Evil. The book starts with Clifford deciding to limit his work as a private investigator when Detective Constable Bird asks for his help on a case. A year ago, a young girl was found abandoned on the streets and has barely spoken since. The police have been unable to trace her identity and have now given up on even trying. The social services team believes the girl has an intellectual disability, but Birdie knows better.

Her aunt has been fostering the girl and they can tell that she is intelligent. Something bad happened to this girl though and she is still scared a year later of whatever it was. Clifford and Birdie will team up to find out who the girl is so that they can help her move forward, but as they get deeper into the case – they realize that she’s not the only one in danger.

Never Too Late is the third book in the Detective Clifford Sebastian series. Life as a private investigator is rarely quiet, a fact that Sebastian Clifford is just finding out. He’s not been open for long when DCI Whitney Walker asks him to investigate an attack that left her older brother, Rob, with brain damage years ago. Rob had no memory of that night for nearly twenty-five-years, but things have been coming back to him of late. The more he remembers, the more Whitney fears for her brother’s safety. Clifford is familiar with being haunted by the past and agrees to help on the case.

Deadly Games is the first book in the Cavendish & Walker series. Detective Chief Inspector Whitney Walker has fought to get to her position. She’s a single mother who joined the police force at the age of eighteen and has never looked back. Now, one wrong move puts her at risk of losing everything that she has worked for. A serial killer is hunting female students at a local university and she believes if she can stop them that it could redeem her career. If she fails, she could lose her job.

She is aided in her investigation by Dr. Georgina Cavendish, a lecturer who steps out of the isolated world of academia after one of her students is killed by the serial killer. Walker manages to make an arrest and it seems like case closed, but then another girl is murdered. Walker is taken off the case, but Cavendish convinces her to keep investigating and the two continue their investigation.

The second book in the Cavendish & Walker series is Fatal Justice. Whitney Walker is called back to action after a string of mutilated bodies turn up. Each of the victims had been grooming young girls and the fear is that there is a vigilante on the loose. She understands the motive, but the law exists for a reason and she must investigate. She’ll turn to Cavendish for help unraveling the clues.

The series continues with Death Track. A teenage boy is found dead on a train and that leads Walker to deduce that the notorious Carriage Killer is back at it. The killer is known for choosing a local rail network and committing four murders on it before moving on. This killing spree needs to come to an end and Cavendish comes in to help her stop it. The killer has killed nearly twelve times in two years without leaving behind any clues. This will be one of the toughest cases for Walker and Cavendish yet.

Another good book in the series is called Final Verdict. A killer is on the loose and they are targeting lawyers. Walker is struggling to find a motive in the case and each lead seems to lead to a dead end. The killer is using lethal injection and there is something linking these cases that Walker isn’t seeing. Cavendish comes on board to investigate as the two hope to close in on the killer before they strike again.

Broken Screams is the twelfth entry in the Cavendish & Walker series. The two are investigating a case of a serial assaulter who only attacks women born on the 29th of February. With one of Walker’s team members having that birthday, they’ll have to work fast in order to ensure they are stopped before the next victim hits close to home.

I have read all Cavendish and Walker books and waiting for the next release. I am now reading the latest Seb Clifford book. I have thoroughly enjoyed them all but having been a serving police officer I take issue with one thing. Nobody is superior to another officer. They may be senior but not superior.
