Alex T. Smith
Alex T. Smith is an English illustrator and author of kid’s books including the “Claude” series, and the “Mr. Penguin” series. He was the illustrator for World Book Day 2014 in the year 2013. His books have been published in various languages including Hungarian, Welsh, Chinese, French, Swedish, German, and Italian.

He was born August 2, 1985 in Coventry Warwickshire, and graduated from Coventry University with a degree in illustration in 2006. he took second place in the Macmillan Prize for Children’s Picture Book Illustrations during his final year and started working on his first commission.

“Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion” won the UKLA Picture Book Award and the Children’s Book of the World Illustration Award for illustrating Dodie Smith’s “The Hundred and One Dalmations”. “Claude” was selected for Richard and Judy Children’s Book Club in 2011 and got shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2012. “Bella & Monty” won the Dundee Picture Book Award. Alex and Angela McAllister won the Stockport School’s Book Award for “My Mum has X-ray Vision”.

In June of 2018, “Claude” premiered on Disney Junior, aimed at girls and boys from the ages of four to six, having been optioned by Sixteen South late in 2013.

When Alex is not busy with work, he enjoys doodling in his sketchbook, reading, eavesdropping, and people watching. He lives under the watchful eyes of his tiny canine companions, that are constant sources of inspiration for him.

After considering many career options (professional rabbit, space traveler, and cake maker) and working as a production assistant for an outdoor theater events company, he decided he would train to do the job he had wanted to do since he was five: illustrator that specialized in the world of children’s publishing.

“Claude in the City” is the first novel in the “Claude” series and was released in the year 2011. Claude’s no ordinary dog, as he leads an extraordinary life!

Claude and Sir Bobblysock (his best friend and who is both a sock and quite bobbly), head off for the City for the first time. They visit a museum, do some shopping, stop a robbery, and heal a whole hospital waiting room filled with patients. Quite a satisfactory day for this delightful duo, all things considered.

“How Winston Delivered Christmas” is the first novel in the “Winston” series and was released in the year 2018. An irresistible tale about the brave little mouse that sets off on an adventure on Christmas Eve. Featuring some Christmassy activities to make-and-do throughout, this is one audiobook that is sure to become a festive family tradition which will be enjoyed year after year.

Winston the mouse is on a Very Important Mission. On Christmas Eve, he discovers a letter that got lost on its way to Father Christmas. So without any time to waste, he sets off to deliver the not himself right in time for Christmas Day! He has a ton of Very Exciting Adventures during this Very Important Mission of his and makes some great friends during his journey.

Each of the 24 and a half chapters in the book has a festive activity of its own for the family to enjoy together. Including making mince pies, making presents, writing a letter to Father Christmas, designing your own Christmas cards, and creating decorations, as well as many more!

“Mr. Penguin and the Lost Treasure” is the first novel in the “Mr. Penguin” series and was released in the year 2017. Mr. Penguin is a hero like no other, like Hercule Poirot meets Indiana Jones.

It has officially been weeks since Mr. Penguin has gone on an adventure and he has been stuck at his desk, just twiddling his flippers. Until the phone rings.

Mr. Penguin and Colin (who is a spider and Mr. Penguin’s silent right hand man) get called in to find the missing treasure located somewhere in the Museum of Extraordinary Objects. This quest finds them fighting some ferocious beasts, solving secret codes, traveling deep under the museum to a lost jungle, and eating finger sandwiches.

This book, with twenty-three quick chapters, a funny group of characters, a ton of illustrations, and an exciting adventure tale, is definitely a winner. It is a delight to read and there is tons of fun to be had.

“Mr. Penguin and the Fortress of Secrets” is the second novel in the “Mr. Penguin” series and was released in the year 2018. Meet Mr. Penguin: Adventurer. And Penguin!

When Mr. Penguin and Colin crash land on some snowy mountain, they find some odd noises that come from a ruined and old fortress. Could it be connected to the mystery of some missing pets? Why are there some shadowy figures lurking about? And is Mr. Penguin going to be able to conquer his fear of flying?

“Mr. Penguin and the Catastrophic Cruise” is the third novel in the “Mr. Penguin” series and was released in the year 2019. Mr. Penguin is boarding a luxury cruise ship. He cannot swim and he does not like the water, however his friend Colin will be performing with the Ladies Choir on board. And anyway, Mr. Penguin feels like resting after recent busy Adventuring. What is more, fish finger sandwiches are available twenty-four hours each day apparently. What heaven!

However despite the party atmosphere and the glamorous film stars, Mr. Penguin cannot help but feel that there is something shifty happening on board. And once he befriends the young stowaway with a mystery of her own to solve, he soon finds that Adventures are lying in wait after all.

“Mr. Penguin and the Tomb of Doom” is the fourth novel in the “Mr. Penguin” series and was released in the year 2021. Follow Mr. Penguin and Colin while they head out into the desert! When Edith, their good friend, gets kidnapped, they are on their most important mission to date.

Can they survive a perilous train journey to the great pyramids? Is Mr. Penguin going to complete the three impossible tasks and get back home for a fish finger sandwich?
