The Dragon Slayers Academy series’ author is Kate McMullan (January 1947—). The graduate of University of Tulsa has a Master’s degree from Ohio State University; the Missouri-born author—her niche is juvenile literature—was a fourth grade teacher when she first aspired to write, prompting her career change to a publishing workplace before she started writing alongside her husband, Jim illustrator McMullan. First dated October 1, 1997, The New Kid at School is book one. Protagonist Wiglaf is a newly-admitted schoolboy at the boys-only (except one girl Erica) Dragon Slayers’ Academy, where he wants to actualize his prophesied dragon-slaying ambition despite being faint-hearted. Ultimately, the dragon-hunting Wiglaf slays when the joke is on a dragon named Gorzil.

Originally dated October 1, 199, Revenge of the Dragon Lady is book two. The vengeful and destructive mother dragon Seetha—the so-called Beast of the East—is destined for the academy to kill Wiglaf who slayed its son Gorzil. Consequently, Wiglaf chances on Seetha’s weak point when he stabs its toe before the off-balance dragon tumbles into water, wherein bathing turns out to be its weakness.

Initially dated May 12, 1998; Class Trip to the Cave of Doom is book three. At their greedy headmaster Mordred’s behest, the treasure-hunting Wiglaf-led classmates are looking for—they find it in an unsafe cave—the numerous gold coins left by the slain Seetha.

First dated January 1997, A Wedding for Wiglaf? is book four. A greedy matchmaker for hire, headmaster Mordred—he is mad for not receiving the dragons’ treasure—recommends and forces the disinterested Wiglaf to Princess Belcheena whose dream is to wed a red-haired two-time dragon slayer named W…Luckily for the otherwise qualified Wiglaf; Coach Plungett rightfully claims the princess who had previously promised to wed him.

Originally dated July 1999, Knight for a Day is book five. Wiglaf’s winning entry in a writing contest, about a day-long meet-and-greet with a knight, secures his interaction with his role model Sir Lancelot—a knight of Camelot—who is soon abducted.

Initially dated July 1999, Sir Lancelot, Where Are You? is book six. Morgana le Fay has bewitched the the missing Sir Lancelot, prompting Wigclaf—at the behest of their headmaster who wants to be rewarded gold—to spearhead efforts to break the spell that rebounds onto the witch, transforming her into a stone.
First dated July 1999, Wheel of Misfortune is book seven. A Wiglaf-led group represents their academy in an inter-school intelligence-related tournament, where the prize is a gold-filled trophy; the team casts a spell to win the highest points and, consequently, the most gold pieces.

Originally dated September 1999, Countdown to the Year 1000 is book eight. It is about a presumed doomsday in 999 C.E. However, a futuristic time traveler not only assures Wiglaf of another more millennia but also cautions him of a doomsayer who is conning people into giving him valuables—including gold and jewelry—by claiming he can avert the doom.

Initially dated September 15, 2003; 97 Ways to Train a Dragon is book nine. Wiglaf and classmate Angus come across—and decides against cooking—a dragon’s egg, wherein a young pet dragon named Worm hatches out and is taught 97 things by the protective duo.

First dated January 12, 2004; Help! It’s Parents Day at DSA is book ten. Wiglaf dreads a visitation day, especially after being given roleplaying responsibilities in the run-up to entertaining the visitors whom they felt would embarrass the learners.

Originally dated May 1, 2004, Danger! Wizard at Work is book eleven. To hasten their long walk through a magical dark forest, Wiglaf alongside his classmates—they are sent to fetch gold—consult a wizard named Zelnoc whose spells irreversibly turns them into quick winged dragons; unfortunately, the learners-turned-dragons dare not return to their dragon-slaying school.

Initially dated August 3, 2004, The Ghost of Sir Herbert Dungeonstone is book twelve. Wiglaf and two other schoolmates unknowingly release a hitherto trapped ghost—belonging to the academy’s founding teacher Sir Herbert Dungeonstone—that tames the self-centric Mordred, who introduces mixed-gender education, by demanding his stockpile of gold coins in exchange for sparing the academy from destruction.

First dated January 13, 2005; Beware! It’s Friday the 13th is book thirteen. Headmaster Mordred inspires the frightened learners to adopt fashion superstitions, especially in a futile attempt to ward off a vengeful dragon named Snagglefahng that takes fight to the academy, where it specifically targets schoolboy Brother Dave.

Originally dated June 16, 2005, Pig Latin—Not Just for Pigs is book fourteen. The learners have been granted three days leave from school, prompting their visit to fellow schoolgirl Erica’s stately home just find her father King Ken who has a pox disease; wizard Zelnoc successfully treats him, but the side effect–which they want to reverse—is the king’s newly-acquired piggish Latin.

Initially dated October 1, 2005; Double Dragon Trouble is book fifteen. Wiglaf is tasked (at teacher Sir Mort’s behest) with writing a tell-all article—for their school’s media outlet DSA News—concerning their secretive headmaster Mordred, prompting the learners’ investigation.

First dated February 1, 2006; World’s Oldest Living Dragon is book sixteen. During a courtesy visit to his role model Sir Lancelot, the Wiglaf-led learners prompt the soon-to-retire knight to fight the dreaded elderly dragon Grizzlegore that wants to raze their academy.

Originally dated June 8, 2006; Hail! Hail! Camp Dragonnonka is book seventeen, where the holidaying learners’ summer camping is interrupted by—and prompts their escape from—ghostly dragons. Never Trust a Troll!—first dated November 1, 2006—is book eighteen, where second grader Wiglaf prompts a mischievous first grader troll called Grock to slay a dragon to defend Sir Mort.

Initially dated May 10, 2007, Little Giant—Big Trouble is book nineteen. Wiglaf leads efforts to protect their pet dragon Worm from their rivals while reenacting a knight fight before going to Gigantia, the realm of man-eating giants, to save the pet from its kidnapper which is a girly giant.
Originally dated May 10, 2012; School’s Out…Forever! is book twenty. Prince Wiglaf and his friends are looking forward to graduate from the academy before leaving it for good, prompting his enthusiastic search for the yet-to-be-found Worm so that he can find closure.
