About Alyssa Satin Capucilli

The American writer of children’s novels Alyssa Satin Capucilli is well known for her inventive and creative style of storytelling. Early and Personal Life

Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1957, Alyssa Satin Capucilli would grow up with a clear love of literature and creativity. Constantly finding new and inventive ways to express herself, she’d constantly be putting her ideas back into her work. Attending Sarah Lawrence College, she would continue pursuing this passion for creativity throughout much of her life. Her primary interest would be in dance, and this would be something that would feature for much of her life.

It would be dancing that would inform much of her work as a writer as well, seeing it as an art-form that would compliment her work as a writer. Finding a rhythm on the page, she would go on to produce a score of books over the years, many of them written in different languages. Focusing on children’s books, she’d find a market for her work with readers from across the world, making a name for herself fast. Currently living in Hastings-on-Hudson in New York, she continues to write to this very day, living with her husband and children.

Writing Career

Starting out back in 1994, Alyssa Satin Capucilli would come to write over fifteen books, all of these being for young children. Using poetry and rhythm to help convey a love of language to her readers, her books would also be illustrated by various different illustrators. Teaching kids how to read and write, her books are short and to-the-point, giving clear and succinct stories and colorful characters. Beloved by young readers from around the world, new generations of readers return to her books time and time again. Many of her books have also been used by teachers, and they will continue to be used for many years to follow.

Biscuit Finds a Friend

Originally brought out in 1997 on the 1st of May, this would first come out through the HarperCollins Publishers label. It would also be the third book to be released in the ‘Biscuit’ series of books, although they weren’t chronologically published in any particular order. Illustrated by Pat Schories, they would both work together to create this compelling and inventive picture story-book.

Meeting a young duckling, the eponymous dog meets a young baby duckling who’s unfortunately lost it seems. Helping the duckling to find its way, Biscuit finds a friend in the process, as they both help each other and have fun. The book helps to show young readers the importance of friendship and what finding a friend can entail, all whilst helping them learn to read.

Katy Duck, Dance Star

This hard-backed story-book was also aimed at young readers, this time being released in 2008 on the 4th of March through the ‘Little Simon’ publishing outlet. Illustrated by Henry Cole, it’s also a bright and lively story that’s sure to engage young readers with its fun story. Clear and easy to relate to, the character of Katy Duck would have her own series, this being the third title in it.

Learning about consideration this time round, Katy Duck is the dancing duck who’s been sent a brand new pink boa by her aunt. Being a dance diva she wants to be center stage with her shiny new accessory, but this might not be for the best when there are others to consider. Dealing with the needs of others, she learns to work well with her friends, finding a solution that is good for everyone.

Tulip and Rex Write a Story

Initially published through ‘Katherine Tegen Books,’ this would follow on from the previous book ‘Tulip Loves Rex’ released in 2013. This would come out in 2015 on the 1st of September, and it would be another picture story-book for young readers. It would also be illustrated by Sarah Massini, much like the first, with another short story featuring the two colorful characters.

Featuring the characters of Tulip, a young girl, and her friend Rex, her dog, as they find activities to do together. In this story they learn the power of stories and what storytelling means, something which is clearly conveyed to the young readers. Showing children how to use their imagination, even if they can’t fully read and write yet, it seeks to inspire them in their creativity, as they learn alongside the characters of Tulip and Rex who write a story one bright sunny day.
