Carrie Vaughn is a well renowned writer born on January 28th, 1973 in Sacramento, California in the United States. She was born and raised in a military family and has lived her life in many destinations in the U.S including California her birthplace, North Dakota, Colorado, Floridaand Maryland. Vaughn’s father was part of the crew B-52 flight during the war with the Vietnamese.
She is famous for her series of urban fantasy kitty Norville books among many other f her works. She has published many other books which feature science fictions, fantasies, thrillers and mysteries and romance. Her passion in writing science fiction stories grew right from the time when she watched 2001, shortly before that, her mother had given her Heinlein’s Red Planet. All this was when she was only the age of eight years.
Vaughn is a holder of Bachelor of Arts degree from the Occidental College. After her first degree from Occidental, she built her fame as an American author by venturing into writing, many of her works which are famous today. During her studying time at Occidental, she also spent a period of one year at the University of York. She later on pursued her Masters of Arts degree in English Literature in Boulder’s University of Colorado. She is also a graduate of the Odyssey Writing Workshop, one of top ranked speculative writing workshops in the United States. The event lasted for 6 weeks taking part in the year 1998. In the year 2009, Vaughn returned to the Odyssey as the special-writer- residence.
Carrie Vaughn’s work has received honorary credits such as the year’s best science fiction and the year’s best fantasy and horror.
Vaughn’s imaginative universe in her series of books is convincing and imaginative. She has over recent works of approximately 20 best-selling novels in the US and globally and close to 70 short story books. Her series on urban fantasy Kitty Norville has made her works famous over the years. The series is about a werewolf hosting radio talk show for supernatural beings. “Kitty Saves the World” is the final novel on the Kitty Norville werewolf series of novels in New York Times best-selling Kitty Norville series.
The series at the moment includes 13 novels and some short stories collections. In her Kitty Norville series of novels, Kitty Saves the World is the last of the series. Kitty Norville, the main character in the series is made by Vaughn to have an open nature that attracts the readers’ attention and makes the novel one of the most read and liked among the Kitty series of novels. The beginning of the first chapter of the novel grabs attention.
Despite the Kitty Norville series revolves around science fiction, it also features other topics with romance included. Kitty and the Midnight Hour, one of the books in the series, was granted the award winner for Romantic Times Reviewers Choice Awards in the year 2005.
She is also popular for her works on the Golden age Saga superhero novels. Carrie Vaughn has extensive work in English Literature not only in short stories and novels. She is also among the authors who produced the science fiction book, Wild Card, which is a superhero anthology series of stories. Wild Card was initially done by a group of Mexican authors but has recently been reviewed by a number of authors of fictional stories, which Vaughn happens to be among the authors.
She is also renowned for famous magazines and internet contents works. Vaughn has works in magazines such as Lightspeed. Lightspeed magazine published her short story, Amaryllis, which was nominated and won in the Hugo Awards for best short stories in 2014. Amaryllis is an online magazine that narrates tales of the near future science fiction, sorcery and swords, science fantasies and folktales.
Another popular magazine by Vaughn is Astrophilia. This magazine is available on popular magazine sites online in audio format and also for reading. It was the finalist in the 2013 WSFA Small Press Awards as a short fiction story. Astrophilia is more like her previous magazine, Lightspeed since they both have the same world settings and revolves around more or less alike characters.
Carrie Vaughn’s work in literature has been identified and appreciated globally through various awards. She has been nominated for the Hugo Awards and RT Reviewer Choice Awards. She is also a renowned writer for writing stories for young adults, with her novel, STEEL, being named in the list of the young readers’ best-selling novels of Amelier Bloomer.Steel features a lot more connections between fencing, pirates and romance as well, all the things that captures the minds of a young adult. A mysterious broken sword takes back Jill, the main character of the story to a pirates’ ship where she is forced to sign in as part of the pirates’ crew. Jill gets to learn about all the filth in a pirate’s life and the black magic that brought her to that ship. The flow of the story is captivating as Vaughn navigates the reader’s mind between different settings of the story and their characters.
Other young adult novels include Voices of Dragons, Discord’s Apple and After the Golden Age. Many other fictional literature works by Vaughn are directed towards capturing the reader’s mind into a totally different world, full of fantasy and mysteries.
In the year 2011 she was among the nominees of WSMA Small Press Awards and emerged as best short stories winner. Vaughn has also taken part in many other awards that recognize authors such as Twenty Eighth Annual Collection of the Year’s Best Science Fiction which led to her nomination if the Hugo Awards as well. Her short story Amaryllis and other fiction stories led to her nomination in the award.
Carrie Vaughn in certainly one of best authors of science fiction, mystery and romance stories, considering the many awards that her literature works has won her. She has her website where her works are available. Vaughn currently has her residence in Boulder in Colorado after her walks through different states of the US. Despite her many stays through various places in the US, Vaughn has managed to build her roots in the Colorado where she enjoys a number of endless hobbies which most include outdoors. She spends most of her time with her lovely pet named Lily, an American Eskimo dog.
