Tracy Crosswhite by Robert Dugoni
Author Robert Dugoni writes the “Tracy Crosswhite” series of mystery novels. The series began publication in the year 2014, when “My Sister’s Grave” was released.
Tracy Crosswhite is a homicide cop with Seattle PD, a job she got to look into her sister’s death. She got the job after quitting her previous job as a teacher. She has a knack for looking into old homicides. She is still haunted by her sister’s disappearance and murder.
“My Sister’s Grave” won the 2015 Nancy Pearl Award for fiction, and was a Library Journal, Suspense Magazine, and Amazon Best Book of the Year in 2014.
“My Sister’s Grave” is the first novel in the “Tracy Crosswhite” series and was released in the year 2014. Tracy Crosswhite has now spent twenty years questioning all of the facts surrounding her sister’s disappearance and the subsequent murder trial. She does not believe Edmund House, who is the man condemned for Sarah’s murder and a convicted rapist, is actually the guilty party. Motivated by the opportunity to get some real justice, Tracy got a job as a homicide detective with Seattle PD and dedicated her whole life to tracking down murderers.
Sarah’s remains are finally found close to their hometown in the northern Cascades in Washington, and Tracy’s determined to find the answers she’s been looking for. While hunting for the real killer, she reveals long-kept, sinister secrets that is going to forever change her relationship with her past and open the door up to some lethal danger.
Fans found this to be a compelling tale which combines the best elements of a gripping police procedural with a legal thriller. Tracy is an interesting protagonist and the novel moves a quick pace that is almost tough to put down once the story gets moving.
“Her Final Breath” is the second novel in the “Tracy Crosswhite” series and was released in the year 2015. Tracy’s returned to the force after the sensational retrial of her sister’s killer. Tracy, who’s still scarred from this ordeal, is pulled into the investigation that threatens to end her career, possibly her life.
A serial killer, that’s known as the Cowboy, has been murdering young women in some cheap motels in North Seattle. Even after the stalker leaves a menacing message for her, suggesting the killer or some copycat could be going after her personally, she is the one tasked to bring the killer to justice.
Since clues are scarce and more victims are dying off, Tracy finds that the key to solving the case might lie in a homicide that occurred decades ago that others, including Johnny Nolasco (her captain) would like to remain buried. With Cowboy out on the hunt, could Tracy even find the evidence she needs to stop him? Or will she end up his next victim?
Tracy develops a bit more in this novel, who is tough, a consummate professional, but never goes over the top with ball busting or sarcasm.
“In the Clearing” is the third novel in the “Tracy Crosswhite” series and was released in the year 2016. Tracy has got both a soft spot and skill for working on unsolved crimes. Tracy, who lost her sister to a killer at just a young age, has dedicated her entire career to bringing closure and justice to friends and families of victims of crimes.
Jenny, a former police academy protege and classmate, calls on Tracy to help solve this one cold case that involves the suspicious suicide of a Native American high school girl from four decades ago. She follows up on some evidence that Jenny’s detective dad collected while he was the investigating deputy. Tracy probes a small town’s memory and discovers there are well-hidden and dark secrets within the fabric of the community.
Is Tracy going to be able to uphold that promise she has made to the family of the deceased girl and deliver the real truth about what happened to their daughter? Or is she going to become the very next victim?
“The Trapped Girl” is the fourth novel in the “Tracy Crosswhite” series and was released in the year 2017. Tracy has herself a rather tough case to solve after a woman’s body was found submerged in a crab pot in the chilly waters of Puget Sound. Tracy and the rest of her co-workers from the Seattle PD’s Violent Crimes Section have to figure out who the victim is. It seems the victim has gone to some great lengths to conceal her identity, the autopsy shows. Who was she running from?
After some evidence turns up that their Jane Doe might be a woman that suspiciously vanished months prior, Tracy is haunted some more by the memory of her sister’s unsolved murder. Pulling up details from the dead woman’s past leads to some conflicting clues that appear to muddy the investigation.
While Tracy starts to uncover the twisted story of desperate avarice and savage betrayal, she’s going to find herself risking it all to face off with a killer that refuses to go down without a lethal fight.
“Close to Home” is the fifth novel in the “Tracy Crosswhite” series and was released in the year 2017. This time Tracy is thrown right into a killer conspiracy.
Tracy, as she investigates the hit-and-run death of one young boy, makes a stunning discovery. Her suspect is an active-duty serviceman working at a local naval base. One piece of key evidence disappears, he is cleared of the charges in a military court. She knows that she cannot turn her back on such an injustice.
When she finds the driver’s ties to a series of recent heroin overdoses in Seattle, she knows that this isn’t just a case of the military protecting one of its own. It goes much deeper than that, and the accused wasn’t acting by himself. It all hits close to home, for Tracy.
While Tracy gets closer to finding out the truth behind this sinister conspiracy, she puts herself in the way of danger. The only ones she can rely upon to survive may be the same people she cannot trust anymore.

This is a wonderful series. I’ve read all of the eight and am waiting for the 3rd book in the other series, which is coming out 2022. Thank you for the list. I’m trying to follow through Ken Follett’s “Pillars of the Earth” or Knightsbridge Series. I’m hoping to read the next two novels after Pillars.
