Anne Graham Lotz is an American published author. She is known for writing books that center around Christianity, religious worship, understanding Christian text, and God.
Anne was born on May 21, 1948. Her parents are Billy Graham, the famous evangelist, and Ruth Bell Graham. She herself is a Protestant and a Christian evangelist. She was born in Montreat, North Carolina, the second of Billy and Ruth’s five children. The family were close to Ruth’s parents and Little Piney Cove was their family home.
Anne is the founder and the president of AnGeL Ministries (you’ll notice that the name is capitalized to stand for her own initials). She frequently is a featured speaker all across the globe and has won awards for her writing. She has also become a best selling author.
When she was younger, the children were often raised by their mother. Lotz admits that her father was gone on a nearly full time basis and she didn’t know anything different other than being raised by her mother and grandparents. She began identifying as Christian when she was eight years old after she had seen the Cecil B. DeMille movie “The King of Kings”.
Not long after graduating high school, she decided to get married. Anne walked down the aisle to marry Dr. Daniel Lotz when she was just eighteen years old on September 9, 1966. In the beginning of their marriage, they resided in Raleigh, North Carolina. The two had moved there since her husband was starting his dental practice. At 20 years old, Anne gave birth to her first child. She would have two more children in the three years after, staying at home to take care of them. It was at this time that she looked for God through Scripture and got more into the Bible since she felt that she had drifted from God due to her busy life.
She heard about Bible Study Fellowship in 1975, a women’s Bible class that utilized a study method with a lot of structure. Wanting a class available in Raleigh, Anne waited for someone to teach the class and then taught it herself after a year. The class had hundreds of people sign up and developed a waiting list. She would teach the class weekly for twelve years. She received invitations to speak. She left in 1988 to work with a teaching ministry. She then founded her non-profit organization AnGeL Ministries in Raleigh so that she could better accept invitations to teach. She would be invited to speak at pastor’s and women’s conferences as well as evangelism conferences.
Anne would be considered one of the top five influential evangelists speaking in the United States in 1999 by the New York Times. She would continue to grow her ministry but through the late nineties experienced a number of personal hurdles to get over. Her property was flattened by a hurricane, her son had cancer and went through treatment, the dental office her husband worked in burned down, her children all got married the same year, and her mother was ill. She resumed studying the Scripture to keep herself focused and comforted, focusing on the Gospel of John. This study would end up resulting in her book Just Give Me Jesus. She would also give revivals in arenas based on the book thanks to her own revival from studying the Gospel of John. The purpose of the revivals were to benefit women that wanted to be closer to God.
Lotz is known for writing several books with religious subjects. She has also written the foreword to several books for other authors. She has also produced messages daily for the radio that can be heard on hundreds of outlets around the world called Daily Light for Daily Living. The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association has given her Gold Medallion Book Awards for her writing and work in Christian publications. These include The Vision of His Glory, God’s Story, Just Give Me Jesus, and My Heart’s Cry.
Anne has been featured on 60 Minutes. She has also appeared on other television shows, including The Today Show, Larry King Live, The 700 Club, and Hannity, among several others. She has also had thousands of people attend her Just Give Me Jesus revivals, with attendees showing up in twelve different countries and over thirty different cities to be there. Her mission in life is to revive God’s people’s hearts and bring people to have a relationship with God.
The author would experience tragedy when Daniel Lotz, her husband, passed away in August 2015. He was found unresponsive in the swimming pool out back and passed away just short of their anniversary together. Daniel and Anne’s legacy lives on through their children and their grandchildren.
