James Hunt is a horror author whose love for writing started showing at an early age. From writing in his journals to trying his hand in fiction, Hunt put a lot of work into his passion and has been a professional writer for over a decade. However, it is not until 2014 that his literature career really took off. Hunt currently resides in Florida, where he enjoys going to the theater whenever he is not writing. Our Stolen Pieces is the first book in the North and Martin Abduction series. The book tells the story of two girls who go missing after a slumber party. Recently partnered detectives Kerry Martin and Jim North are tasked with finding out whatever happened to the two girls. Kerry and Jim are new to the police station, so they have a lot to learn in addition to dealing with parents who are desperate to hear about their daughters. Their boss also has to explain the reason behind adding two detectives with a smeared reputation to her team. How will the new detectives cope with such a high-profile case given all the things working against them?

When they start their investigations, Kerry and Jim discover that there are a few things the parents are hiding. Fortunately, the detectives pick on this quick, making it easier for them to piece all the details. It is easy to understand for both Kerry and Jim to understand where these parents are coming from. Kerry suffered her trauma from her father being branded a cop killer. For years, she worked to become a detective, but her father’s reputation kept on thwarting her dreams. Jim, on the other hand, did the right thing and turned his colleagues to L. A so, he became the RAT amongst his peers. The two detectives’ bond over their experience as they work to unravel the mystery behind the missing girls. It is only much later that they discover that the girls wanted to live what they considered a better life only to discover a little too late that this was not the best thing for them.

This is a well-written book with a unique storyline, great pacing, and tension that builds, the more the story progresses. It is great getting to know Kerry and Jim better and seeing how they work to put their traumas behind them. While both struggle with a few things in their personal lives, they remain dedicated to their job. Kerry has a beautiful personality, and it is amazing how Jim stands up for the truth, knowing that this will cost him a few friends. The mystery is quite solid, and once the pace picks up, you are going to have a hard time putting the book down.

Our Stolen Pieces is an intriguing crime mystery story. The story features a great flow, interesting characters, and a solid plot. Both the main characters’ backstories are well done, so you will feel like you know them already. Add the incredible pace and great storyline, and you have yourself a page-turner. This book is slightly over 300 pages, and you may need to clear up a day because once you start reading, there will be no stopping until you get to the end.

What She Knew
What She Knew starts with the story of Lena Hayes, a politician determined to make oil fracking companies take responsibility for their actions. For all the harm these firms bring to the workers and their families in the small community in North Dakota, Lena wants them to pay. However, the companies are not taking this lying down. They will do everything to stop Lena, and she soon discovers how dirty politics can get.

Lena’s enemies dig into her past with the purpose of finding dirt to use against her. When they fail to find enough of it to achieve their objective, they turn to her daughter, Kaley. Lena’s daughter is taken during a high-stakes vote, and the kidnappers have enough threats to keep Lena shaken. While Lena does everything possible to get her daughter, her efforts prove to be futile. She is left with no choice but to play dirty and hope that her daughter will be found alive. Fortunately, she has a brother who will go to great lengths for Kaley’s sake. Will Lena manage to save her daughter and stop the oil companies?
Adila Cooper is a homicide detective trying to outrun her past. She already has enough on her hands when she is thrown into the world of killers. Adila has limited experience in this ruthless world, and she is soon caught between two sides of the law. How can a relatively green detective stop all the senseless killings? Can her determination to stop the murders leave a mark in a world that doesn’t think that some deaths are important?

This story comes with a lot of violence and gore. The book is made of two stories, each broken down into three parts. As Lena tries to do what is right for her community, her life and that of her family is put in danger. It is sad seeing the person she becomes to save her daughter, but you will understand where she is coming from. As the body count rises, Adila has to work extra hard only to be disappointed when another death is reported. Eventually, she decides to cross to the criminal world to stop all the madness, but this comes with serious consequences.

What She Knew is an engaging story characterized by ruthless criminals, politics, and a police detective who doesn’t give up. All characters are well-developed, which makes it easy to relate to them. There will be loads of blood, and the cruel way the killings are carried out will shock you. However, the story will draw you in from the first page, and you will not be able to put it down until you have read it to the end. If you are a fan of horror stories, this would be a great book to add to your collection.
