Tracy Buchanan is a British published author of several fictional novels.
She is married to Rob, her husband. They live with their daughter Scarlett in the United Kingdom along with their pet dog. She has worked as a producer and a web journalist in addition to being an author. She attended Royal Holloway at the University of London and graduated with a degree in English.
Tracy used to work as an editor for a travel magazine, for which she traveled quite a bit. Before that she worked in public relations. She has always had a passion for traveling, a truth and a wanderlust that she credits to her grandparents. They were Sri Lankan and would tell her stories. Now that same desire for travel also helps to inspire her while she is writing. Spending holidays on the coast with her family also has helped her develop a love for the sea, something that she is drawn to.
When Tracy is not busy writing, she is spending time with her family or going on Facebook and procrastinating. She has many dedicated readers and always enjoys hearing from them. She also admits that she has an addiction to lip salve, something that has been going on since she was a child. She owns many of them but when she really needs a salve, she can never find one, even though she owns dozens!
Tracy once had the chance to have a celebrity encounter, rubbing shoulders with none other than the celebrity Brad Pitt. They were both attending the premiere of the movie Snatch by Guy Ritchie, and while in the VIP room he was passing by and they rubbed shoulders. She was one of the people in the VIP room because Tracy was working in the PR field at the time. PR allowed her the chance to attend many parties and indulge in champagne at such parties, but writing was her dream, so she eventually left that world to become a journalist.
The author also has traveled to Australia, where she had an interesting experience with a kangaroo. Kangaroos are known for being aggressive, and while she was there, one attempted to jump on Tracy’s back. She was there to write an article for the same travel magazine that she served as editor for.
Tracy also attended a Starting Writing Fiction course offered by the Open University, something she completed while completing work for the department at the OU that also produced BBC series such as Frozen Planet. She was also part of the social media team for the OU, eventually choosing to leave so that she could write on a full time basis. She wrote The Atlas of Us after completing the fiction writing course. Her first dog Archie, a Jack Russell with one eye, was featured in the novel as well.
The Atlas of Us is the debut fictional novel to come out from author Tracy Buchanan. The book also goes by the title Before I Say Goodbye in the United States.
When it comes to family, some people are so close that they will do almost anything that they can for the ones that they love. Main character Louise Fenton is worried sick when it turns out that her mother has gone missing in Thailand after a tsunami hit on Boxing Day. Louise has not heard from her at all and so immediately does not hesitate to fly to the country in an attempt to find her and some answers.
Once she gets there, Louise immediately sets out to try and find her mother. She does discover something, a bag that is unique and she knows that it belongs to her mother. She looks inside in an attempt to find out some clues, anything that could help her to track down her mother. What she finds is a beautiful atlas that was apparently owned by Claire Shreve, a travel journalist.
Inside of the atlas are the many notes and mementos put inside the pages. She also finds that the journal reveals secrets, like Claire trying to find her role in the world, revelations, and a love affair. Louise sets off across Thailand, trying to use the atlas to understand how this woman is connected to her mother and hoping it can assist her in finding her.
Louise will find out a secret that had a huge impact on Claire and her love and was close to destroying them. It ends up being the same secret that her mother’s been keeping for years. Can she find her mother? Or will this daughter be left with only newly known secrets and unfulfilled wishes? Read this moving novel to find out!
