Wes Moore is a published author of fiction and non fiction. He is also a television producer, Army combat veteran, youth advocate, social entrepreneur, business leader, and CEO of the nonprofit to fight poverty, the Robin Hood Foundation. He is a best selling author.

Westley Watende Omari Moore was born on October 15, 1978. When he was just three years of age, his father passed away in front of Wes. His father had been a radio and television host and the event was understandably traumatizing. His mother worked hard to send him and his siblings to private school. Wes was exposed to two different worlds, his well off classmates and his neighbors who were struggling.

Wes started acting out, getting suspended, earning bad grades, and being delinquent. His mother wanted to help his behavior improve and so sent him to Pennsylvania to enroll in military school. Wes attempted to escape the school five different times. After that, he decided to stop trying to escape and fight the system and take responsibility for his actions. Six years later he had graduated and was the company commander, doing his part to oversee over a hundred cadets.

He graduated in 1998 from Valley Forge Military College as a commissioned officer and Phi Theta Kappa. In 2001, he graduated from John Hopkins University Phi Beta Kappa, holding a bachelor’s degree in the field of international relations. While at the university, Wes was also honored through the Maryland College Football Hall of Fame.

Wes was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, completing an MLitt in 2004 in international relations. He also served in the U.S. Army as a captain and paratrooper. He would go on a combat tour of duty in 2005 to 2006 in Afghanistan as part of the 1st Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division. He also was leading the strategic support plan for the Americans for the Afghan Reconciliation Program, the goal of which is to bring together former insurgents and unite them with the Afghan government.

Wes is an authority on radical Islamism and its rise and effects in the Western University. He served from 2006 to 2007 as a White House Fellow. He also was a Special Assistant for Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State. After spending time in the White House, Wes switched gears. He worked at Citigroup in New York as an investment professional. His role was to focus on alternative investments and global technology.

Wes was picked by Ebony Magazine in 2007 as one of their “Top 30 Leaders Under 30”. In 2009, he was selected as part of the “40 Under 40 Rising Stars” feature for Crain’s New York Business. Moore was picked to be an Asia Society Fellow in 2009. He has a big passion when it comes to supporting veterans in the United States.

Wes also cares about what the roles that mentoring, education and public service can do when it comes to influencing the lives of young Americans. He is a part of the board of IAVA, Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of America. He also worked with Johns Hopkins to found STAND!, an organization focusing on working with young children and adults in Baltimore that are part of the criminal justice system.

Moore has been part of the 2008 Democratic National Convention as a featured speak in Denver. He has been a speaker at the NFTE Business Plan Competition, Southern Regional Conference of the NSE, education reform session of the conference Race & Reconciliation in America, and the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.
