Michael Avallone is an American published author. His full name is Michael Angelo Avallone Jr. He also used a variety of other pen names, including Sidney Stuart, Dorothea Nile, Edwina Noone, Priscilla Dalton, Troy Conway, Vance Stanton, Mark Dane, Steve Michaels, Lee Davis Willoughby, Max Walker, John Patrick, Jeanne-Anne dePre, Mike Avalone, Dora Highland, and Stuart Jason, in addition to sharing the Nick Carter pen name with other authors. The author had many pen names that he used to write books and more.
The author was born in New York City on October 27, 1924. He would go on to become a successful published author of prolific proportions. He wrote secret agent stories as well as mystery stories and novelizations of films and television. The total amount of work that he has put out in his career and lifetime includes articles, short stories, and novels, over a thousand works in total.
His debut novel came out in 1953 and was titled The Tall Dolores. He would go on to write several more novels after that in the Ed Noon series that this book started off. The 32nd book in the series was published in 1988 and is titled High Noon at Midnight.
Avallone did an incredible amount of television and movie tie-ins, over two dozen. This started with The Main Attraction in 1963. He also wrote tie-ins for Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Hawaii Five-o, The Partridge Family, Friday the 13th Part III, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. His book from the first of the novelizations of the U.N.C.L.E. series was titled The Thousand Coffins Affair. He had a deal with the publisher of a thousand dollars for the first book and agreed to do the rest on a handshake deal. Ace went back on their word and hired follow up writers for the novels.
Michael would also write some novellas in the late sixties that also featured the INTREX organization, something very similar to U.N.C.L.E.
The author would also serve as editor for the newsletter from Mystery Writers of America from 1962 to 1965. He would get married to Lucille Asero in 1949. They were together for some time and had a son together before choosing to dissolve the marriage. Avallone would marry again in 1960 to Fran Weinstein. They had a son and a daughter together.
In addition to being a writer, he also lectured as a guest at Columbia University, New York University, and Rutgers University. Avallone would pass away on February 26, 1999 in Los Angeles, California. He was inducted as an author in the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. In 1989, he was nominated for an Anthony Award for High Noon at Midnight, a best paperback original.
He would write the Nick Carter series of spy tales using his pen name of Nick Carter. He used Troy Conway to write Rod Damon: The Coxeman and a parody of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. He would also write A Woman Called Golda, a novelization of a television miniseries from 1982.
Michael Avallone is the creator and the author of the Ed Noon series of fictional novels. This series first started off in 1953 with the publication of The Tall Dolores. He would follow that up with The Splitting Image. There are a total of 32 novels in this series, perfect for the reader who is always looking for another installment of the story. The series follows the main character Ed Noon and his work as a private eye. He starts out small with a modest office located in Manhattan. Even though he begins poor, he does so well that he moves to a better office with a nice secretary and some very important clients. Ed is always about doing the right thing and trying to solve his cases.
The Tall Dolores is the first novel in the Ed Noon series. This private eye is tough and can make his way through big cities without being pushed around. He’s a hard guy that does his best to try and solve cases for his clients.
He’s got another case in the works, something that he needs in order to build his client list and his income. A burlesque queen that is the tallest all over the world hires him for the purposes of finding her lover. The lover is even taller than she is but has gone missing with strange circumstances surrounding the disappearance.
It’s a unique case to be sure, and he wants to do his best to track down the lover for his client. He is foiled when Ed finds out that the lover has been killed. He was stabbed to death and appears on the Museum of Natural History’s steps. This is no longer the search for a missing person. This has now just become a case to find a killer.
Soon Noon is on the hunt, trying to track down the trail of a treacherous murderer. The trail will take him all over the place, eventually taking him to the Statue of Liberty. When he meets up with Lt. Mike Monks, he has no idea that he’s about to forge a lasting relationship. The man will not only go on to become a Captain but a great pal and ally to Noon over the years.

The Splitting Image is the second novel in the Ed Noon series. Ed is back again and ready to solve some more cases.
