Curtiss Ann Matlock
Curtiss Ann Matlock was born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and comes from generations of proud North Carolinians. She has lived for many years in Oklahoma, now resides with her family and assorted pets near Mobile, Alabama.
She was born into a family of avid readers,. And started reading before she entered the first grade and was penning vignettes while she was still in high school.
Curtiss Ann is a mom and grandma, native Southerner, a lover of family, the land, a good cup of hot tea, and the written word.
Curtiss began her writing career during her thirties when she published two tiny and warm-hearted articles about her life, which she was paid a total of $100. She became so enthused from this success that she saw began writing her first novel right away. She also enrolled in the University of Oklahoma’s professional writing program, and studied under the distinguished writer and teacher Jack Bickham and Carolyn Hart.
During her second year of study, she experienced the dream of selling her very first novel that she ever wrote, which was a romance, to Harlequin Books.
“Lost Highways” was nominated for a RITA Award in women’s fiction. “Sweet Dreams at the Goodnight Motel” was a finalist for an Oklahoma Book Award.
Curtiss’ debut novel, called “Crosswinds”, was released in the year 2012. Her work is from the romance and humor genres.
“Driving Lessons” is the second novel in the “Valentine” series and was released in the year 2000. On the road of life, sometimes, you have to shift gears and then slow down for some of those rough patches. However, in the end, should you drive carefully, you will end up back home.
Joey, after being married to Jolene for twenty years, has left her as well as their three kids. Now, with a Chevy Suburban that has seen better times, an Oklahoma ranch house, and an uncertain path ahead of him, she finds herself taking a journey that she hadn’t planned on or wanted. She just can’t turn around and head back. All she is able to do is move forward.
Sometimes, however, the most unexpected path is the best. Because if you are brave and grip the wheel tight enough, you can take yourself in an extraordinary new place. Like in the arms of a guy that understands some lost dreams and, with just a pinch of luck, right on the brink of finding some new directions.
“Cold Tea on a Hot Day” is the third novel in the “Valentine” series and was released in the year 2001. Muriel Porter, the publisher of the Valentine Voice, has ran off in order to tour the whole world with her new husband, and has left the paper in the hands of Tate Holloway, her cousin. She is a big-city editor that intends to stir things up with controversial editorials.
Tate shows up at his new home, he is shocked to find a dog, a small boy, and a huge orange kitty asleep on his porch swing. He quickly finds out that the boy is Willie Lee James, the learning-disabled boy of star reporter and his neighbor, Marilee James. If Marilee weren’t close to being engaged to Parker Lindsey, the town’s veterinarian, Tate would take steps to get to know the gorgeous reporter better.
Marilee has more than her own share of burdens and single mothers will relate while she struggles to raise her boy and her eleven year old niece. She also figures out if she should take the easy way out by marrying Parker. Right when she makes her choice, Tate shows up with a frosty pitcher of iced tea and a winning smile.
“At the Corner of Love and Heartache” is the fourth novel in the “Valentine” series and was released in the year 2002. Life is about to get as good as possible in Valentine, Oklahoma. Marilee James is engaged to the Valentine Voice’s new editor, Tate Holloway, a guy whose sweet Southern sensibilities and melting kisses have convinced her to take a leap of faith. Marriage is a nerve-racking proposition, especially when she has a special needs son and one abandoned niece to care for.
While standing at life’s crossroads, Marilee needs to get a push in the right direction.
The push comes from Stuart James, Marilee’s ex and her son’s dad, in ironic fashion. Gone for the past two years, he has returned at the most inopportune time, pushing Marilee to think hard about the path she is going down. Stuart, with all of his charm, talent, and his secrets, is just what her heart needs to move right into the arms of the right guy. And then into the happiness that is waiting just around the corner.
“Recipes for Easy Living” is the fifth novel in the “Valentine” series and was released in the year 2003. Two parts love. One part laughter. Mix and enjoy.
Christmas has hit Valentine, Oklahoma and everyone has a special wish. For thirteen year old Corrine, it is just about keeping what she’s got: a happy life with her aunt Marilee and Papa Tate. Her most loved horses and Ricky Dale, her almost boyfriend. Now isn’t the time for the mom that abandoned her to return to her life.
Anita, however, is determined. She is coming back to Oklahoma in order to fix the mistakes that she’s made. Despite some horrible times and the bridges that she has burned, Anita does love her child, and she is desperately hoping some Christmas magic is going to help Corrine choose to love and trust her once more.
For Marilee, she loves Corrine as though she were her own, and fears she will lose the girl to one irresponsible and gorgeous mom that might just break her heart for a second time. Once again, Anita’s arrival sparks old flames of stubbornness and anger between these two sisters. It is a season of miracles, though. If one small miracle could find its way to the town of Valentine this year, then everyone could just get the most perfect gift there is.
