Webb’s “Over the Broomstick” is the story of Nora Wildes, a woman that is finding it hard to start from scratch. She had decided to leave a career and husband behind and is now living in a tiny one-bedroom apartment which is all that the two jobs she holds can afford. She believes she has hit rock bottom and things could only get better until her world is turned upside down by the news that her aunt Edith is dead. Popular opinion asserts that Edith had drowned but since witches cannot drown, the narrative seems a little bizarre. Nora heads to the small town of Sucre, where her aunt lived to learn that it is filled with mayhem and magic. It is not the same town she had visited as a child. She is the heir to her aunt’s money, magical powers, a talking cat and a huge pile of problems. She is also smack in the middle of a murder investigation and is finding it impossible to make friends given that she does not know who in the town might have had a motive for killing her aunt. She needs to quickly learn how to use her new power if she is not to end up dead like her aunt.
Webb’s “Over the Broomstick” the second novel of the series sees Nora Wildes adapting to her new life. But then someone just broke into her house and getting into her attic, had stolen some forbidden books. Everything is in danger of falling apart unless she can find the thief who has fortunately left some clues. Nora tracks down the thief and in a very public confrontation warns him off only for the thief to turn up dead. As expected, Nora is the prime suspect in the murder and what is even worse is that the thief’s family has power and influence. It turns out that she came from a family of vengeful and powerful witches that will stop at nothing to get revenge against Nora, who they believe killed their daughter. Nora now needs to find the books taken from her attic while at the same time find the killer so that she can ward off the girl’s family who are out for her blood. Luckily, she has Quinn her cat familiar and together they venture into the hidden magical world where there is death, dark magic and deception. Could she solve the mystery of her stolen books and a killer before it is too late?
Mara Webb’s “The Broom to Nowhere” opens to Nora Wildes finally feeling like she belongs. She now has a boyfriend, a job and seven talking cats and Sucre is feeling like home and she thinks she could not have a more perfect life. Brent her boyfriend intends to buy a new house since he just got a promotion at work. Things go haywire when Nora goes to see an open house and stumbles upon a dead body. There is a witch murderer on the streets and she has to act fast to catch them as the police cannot ever bring them to justice. There is something very wrong though it seems Nora is the only one that can see it. Ahead lied evil spirits, lies, kidnap and murder. Could it be someone Nora knows or is it merely a group of vigilantes employing magic? She has to do something since so many people she cares about are in danger.
