Linda Chaikin is a reputed American novelist of historical fiction, Christian fiction, and romance novels. She has written numerous book series in her career, including the Royal Pavilion series, Heart of India series, Trade Winds series, Great Northwest series, Egypt series, East of the Sun series, Buccaneers series, Day to Remember series, and a few others. Chaikin has written several of her books under the pen name of L.L. Chaikin. She was born in 1943 as Linda Lee Chaikin and was the youngest of ten children born to her parents. Her birth was followed by the death of her father, which affected the family very much. Author Chaikin penned her first full-length book on paper when she was 14 years old. Later, she rewrote this book and used it as the plot of her popular novel, Wednesday’s Child, which is a part of her widely successful Day to Remember book series.
Chaikin and her husband named Steve met each other in a Bible study. They got married six months after their first meeting and together, attended the Multnomah Bible College & Biblical Seminary, located in Portland, Oregon. A number of her books have become top-sellers. They have succeeded in capturing the imaginations and hearts of numerous readers of the world. A couple of her books have won the Silver Angel Award for Excellence and one book was a Christy Award finalist. Throughout her childhood, Chaikin suffered from asthma that forced her to miss school for a major part of each semester and spend time alone in her house. Though there was too much of a shortage of materialistic things in her family, Chaikin’s mother provided her with lots of books to spend her alone time.
Despite being on a tight budget, her mother always bought her favorite Little Golden Books that she loved very much. Author Chaikin says that she loved reading so much that she was ready to die in her bed while reading and rereading her books. She remembers the thrill of receiving a new fairy tale book as a gift from her mother every Christmas. Eventually, the books became Chaikin’s friends and replaced the ones that she was not able to make at her school because of her health condition. Though Chaikin lacked mathematical skills, she was excellent in spelling, reading, and writing. She remembers one of the proudest moments of her school when her teacher had moved her up to the top reading circle of her class.
During the teenage years, Chaikin had started rewriting the endings of the novels that she didn’t like. On many occasions, her short story and essay assignments were read out loud in her class. This made her become firm in her decision of becoming an author after growing up. After she received a rejection from a publishing company to release her first book, Chaikin was disheartened. However, her ambition of becoming a writer was still high. She shifted her focus towards writing romance stories, however, most of her romance stories were such that they would corrupt the minds of the readers. One day, while she was busy writing one of her romance stories, Chaikin heard a voice on the radio about surrendering to the Lord and it changed her life completely.
The voice motivated her to shift her focus towards religion. Subsequently, Chaikin got indulged in Bible studies. Later, she returned to writing several books in the Christian fiction genre. And when they were accepted by publishing houses for publication, she continued writing Christian fiction books with an element of historical fiction in them. Her success as an author made Chaikin believe that it was because of the intervention of God in her life that she was able to make it big and carve a successful career out of it. Over the years, she has successfully written and published more than 30 top sellers and has won several prestigious awards as well. As of today, Chaikin lives in northern California with her loving husband. She spends most of her time writing novels and uses her spare time to try some interesting activities like gardening, walking, knitting, etc.

Linda, are you still writing books? I haven’t heard of any new ones for a long time! Maybe 10 years ago? I absolutely love your writing and read all of your books several years ago. I would love to hear from you!
I am among the many who read the silk house series only disappointed to find out the fourth book promised was never published. Don’t like when I’m promised something and not get it. As a Christian writer this should important because the world is always looking for ways to pull us down
I also read all 3 of the Silk House Novels, and was shocked that after being promised the conclusion the author just decided that they wouldn’t finish the series. Who doesn’t offer any conclusion to a series?!? I vowed never to read this author again.
Just finish the last book of the series called The Silk House Series. After investing time in all 3 books I was left handing. A 4th book is needed this series to bring this saga to a close. Very disappointing. Like the author, but need closure for the books. Not sure I want to read others only to be disappointed again.
You ended the Midwife of St. Petersburg in a crowded rush in a few pages with no conclusions. If that was the TOTAL ending, it’s a BAD ending. Is there a sequel to make it worth while following? If so, what is the name of the sequel? Is there GOING to be a sequel? The writing was great! The story was informative and gripping, but the ending was a clogged, hanging puzzler. Please reply.
