Bobby Adair
Bobby Adair is an American author of horror, science fiction, humor, and comedy books. Some of his notable book series included Ebola K, Slow Burn, Dusty Diary, and Last Survivors series written with TW Piperbrook. Adair previously worked as a programmer in different institutions across the country and generally enjoyed the perks that came with his career.
Additionally, Adair has had his fair share of ups and downs, but his life has mostly been an adventure riddled with travel and discovering new horizons. He’s traveled to India, to the tallest mountains around the world, smarted-off to cops, swarm with sharks, and been arrested.
Ebola K Book 1
This is the first book in the Ebola K series. It’s centered on the Ebola virus that first mutated into an airborne variety in Reston, Virginia. The year is 1989, and even though human beings are infected, no one dies thanks to medical intervention and sheer luck. Many years later, the same virus mutates yet again, this time round in a remote East African village. Terrorists are quick to identify this deadly strain, and they are looking to turn it into a chemical weapon. In the meantime, those infected continue to die as their loved watch and wait for their turn.
The world watches helplessly as Sierra Leone is brought to its knees. The epidemic is quickly spreading to the rest of the West Africa region. Unfortunately, there is no telling how much damage is done already. Only a handful of Americans are in the know about Ebola K and its potency. Can America protect its citizens from this deadly disease? Is there anything that can be done to stop the terrorists from getting their hands on the virus? Is it too late to do anything but wait for death? Why is the world watching instead of stepping in and helping manage the situation?
One outstanding feature of this book is the concise and straightforward plot. You will not need a roadmap to navigate this one as everything is well organized, and the flow is just right. The storyline is quite intriguing, and you will be drawn right from the first page. The setting is also extraordinary, and even if you have never been to Africa, you will feel as if you are walking right next to the characters as they bear the brunt of this deadly disease. Aside from highlighting the facets of contagious epidemics, this book paints a perfect picture of the consequences of prejudice and hatred. The characters are well fleshed out and relatable to people from all walks of life.
Ebola K is one appropriately timed book that is just a single breath from reality. The devastating effects of Ebola have been witnessed in different parts of the world, and the fear that the virus could mutate to a strain that spreads faster is valid. The science used throughout the story is simple, and the descriptions so real you will have a hard time believing this is fiction. It is scary to think of how a single mutation can bring so much devastation to the world. This is a mature read both in plot and style, and it is frightening that this is something that could happen one day.
Zero Day
Zero Day is the first book in the Slow Burn series. The book features Zed Zane, a young man who is about to experience the worst day of his life. It is a Sunday morning, and Zed needs some money from his parents. After drowning a few shots of tequilas to help stifle his pride, Zed heads to his mum’s home, knowing that he will be doing a lot of begging over lunch. The sight that welcomes him is nothing but appalling. The foyer is covered with blood, and his mother lies lifeless on the floor in the family living room.
As Zed gets into the house, He is met by his stepfather, Dan. He is crazy-eyed and spoiling for a fight that catches Zed off-guard. After a struggle that leads to the kitchen, Dan bites Zed’s arm so hard, but the young man is agile enough to grab a knife from the kitchen counter and stab Dan so many times he lost count. According to the police report, Zed stabs his stepfather 37 times. Zed is arrested as an investigation on these crimes is launched. He will be released to the streets at some point and start a struggle for survival in a world where his kind is not welcome.
What the police do not know at the time of arrest is that Zed is now infected. The flu virus is turning people into zombies, and it is only a matter of time before Zed starts acting crazy like his stepfather. As this is happening, a flu virus is spreading fast in different parts of the world. From Africa to Asia, people continue to suffer every day, and the trend is becoming worrying. To what extent will the zombies go to get the supply they need for survival? Is there something that will be done to reduce the chaos and make life easier for those who are not yet infected?
This book comes with a simple plot that follows the path through a harrowing apocalypse. The story is action-packed, and a lot of bizarre events are going to happen throughout the story. From men being torn into half to zombies that will kill anything in sight, you can expect some out of the ordinary occurrences here.
This story starts with a loathsome protagonist, which is a welcome break from the ordinary. The story itself is entertaining and scary at the same time. If you are looking for a book that will awaken your childhood fears about zombies, Zero Day is ideal. There is a suspense that will keep you turning the pages. The author has also done a great job of developing the characters, and you will feel their pain and struggles for survival. This book is quite short, making it perfect if you are looking for a horror story that you can enjoy in one sitting.
