Eileen Watkins is a reputed American novelist of cozy mysteries, suspense, and thriller novels. She is particularly famous for writing the Cat Groomer series and the Matthews series. The latter was written under the pen name of E.F. Watkins. Additionally, Eileen has written numerous standalone books in her career. For a major part of her career, Eileen was employed by daily newspapers. She used to write and edit stories based on architecture, home improvement, fine arts, and interior design. Eileen has also published paranormal suspense and mystery novels. She likes to see herself as a Jersey Girl. Eileen likes older houses and always keeps at least one cat to give her company. Her success as an author of mystery novels has helped her to become a member of the writers’ associations of the MWA and Sisters in Crime.

All the novels of Eileen have paranormal or animal themes. She specializes in stories of suspense and mystery fiction. Eileen launched her Cat Groomer series in 2017 with the book called The Persian Always Meows Twice. It was a Kensington Publishing publication. Two more books followed a year later and one more a year after that. The first book of this series is the winner of the David G. Sasher Award in the category of the Best Mystery of 2017. It was awarded to Eileen at the Deadly Ink Mystery Conference of 2018. Also, the first 3 books have received Car Writers’ Association, Inc’s Certificate of Excellence. Before coming up with this cozy mystery series, Eileen had published 8 books under the pseudonym of E.F. Watkins. Most of them were paranormal suspense stories and were published by Amber Quill Press. The Quinn Matthews Haunting books of the author are available through the Crossroad Press.

Besides writing mystery novels, Eileen works as a publicist for the annual Deadly Ink Mystery Conference in New Jersey and Central Jersey’s Sisters in Crime. The topics of interest of author Eileen include spirituality, paranormal, animal training & rescue, etc. In the Cat Groomer books, Eileen has shown the lead character in the role of Cassie McGlone and has depicted her as running a grooming & boarding business for felines in Chadwick, New Jersey. Cassie McGlone appears to be the kind of person who tries to be away from the drama and stress and focuses completely on running her business without having to go through any trouble. However, she keeps landing in murder investigations and assisting the local authorities in catching the culprits. Most of the time, she finds herself as the prime suspect and strives to clear her name.

Author Eileen says that she was inspired to write the series from one of her friends living in a condo community, who faced harassment at the hands of the other residents of the community for her habit of feeding cats from the nearby woods. When the friend narrated this incident to Eileen, she researched this topic and found that there were many other communities where people were opposing the act of feeding cats. Then, she came up with the character of Cassie McGlone and began developing stories of murder mysteries with Cassie at the center of each one of them. Eileen enjoys writing full time and always manages to take out some time to cherish her other interests. The most interesting writing quirk of Eileen is brainstorming about a plot twist or a character and writing them down on legal pads. She believes that it helps in freeing up her creative abilities.

Eileen claims that she always wanted to be a fiction writer and considers herself lucky to have succeeded in finding the right career path. At times, she fantasizes about trying her hand in theater, art, and music as they also intrigued her very much when she was growing up. Overall, she is quite satisfied with her successful writing career and looks forward to achieving more success with her work in the years to come. Eileen hopes her fans will continue to read her books and support her with good reviews and comments.

The Cat Groomer Mystery series written by author Eileen Watkins began in 2017 and comprised of 4 books up to 2019. It features the lead characters in the roles of Cassie McGlone, George DeLeuw, Dawn, Sabrina Ward, Jaki Natal, and several cats named Harpo, Ayesha, and Gordie. Author Watkins has set the series in Chadwick, New Jersey. A popular book of this series is entitled ‘The Bengal Identity’. It was released by the Kensington Publishing Corporation in 2018. The book opens by depicting that Cassie McGlone owns a cat grooming shop in Chadwick called Cassie’s Comfy Cats. A customer arrives at her shop and asks her to board her brown cat Ayesha for a few days as his house has been destroyed by fire. When Cassie gives a bath to Ayesha, it is revealed that her brown color was just a dye and she was a valuable breed of Bengal cats. Cassie suspects that the cat was stolen. When she goes to confront the owner, she finds him dead. It becomes clear to Cassie that someone wants the exotic Bengal cat so bad that he is ready to commit murders. Working with the local police, Cassie McGlone tries to find the real owner of the cats, while staying clear of the murderer. Soon after, another person ends up dead, making Cassie take the matter in her own hand and chase down the killer before he takes another innocent life.

Another excellent novel in this series is known as ‘Feral Attraction’. It was also published in 2018 by the Kensington publication. This novel opens by depicting that Cassie McGlone has a close friend named Dawn who is involved in protecting stray cats living on the property of a condo community. When Dawn learns that the residents have decided to cause damage to the cats, he approaches Cassie to ask for her help. Dawn wants Cassie to talk to the residents and ask them not to hurt the cats. However, it is found that not all the residents are against the cat invasion. Sabrina Ward feeds the stray cats and also creates a shelter near her house for them. This infuriates other residents and they call for a community meeting in which Dawn and Cassie are also invited. Following the meeting, Sabrina is found dead. The police label it as an accident, but Cassie McGlone suspects that there is something more in this case that people are not able to see. She carries out an investigation on her own and makes a list of possible suspects. And when it becomes clear that Sabrina was murdered, Cassie sets out to catch the culprit before another murder takes place.
