Chris Fox

Chris Fox is an American author of fantasy and science fiction books. His series of books include Deathless, Project Solaris, Ganog Wars, Magitech Chronicles and Void Wraith Trilogy. Chris was an iPhone developer before switching to full time writing about gods destroying plants and dragons burning down starships.

Destroyer

Chris Fox is a beautiful author, and that’s evident in Destroyer the first book in Void Wrath series. Besides from his videos, the author gets us emotionally entangled in his characters as well. In this series debut novel, the author has created a setting with familiar trope and fresh twists that will make the story unique to your usual fare. There are different races woven into the story, the Tigris (a feline race), humans, and the dread Void Wraith. There is some fantastic world-building including a projection for space travel dubbed Helios gates. This makes a satisfying change from cryo-sleep inventions or hyperspace. In addition there is integrity to the fictional technology from VI chips capable of bridging the gap between ship computers and organic forms of life to Tigris techniques of space combat.

The Void Wraith, including their army of Judicators, are antagonists that strike fear into heart. They are strange and threatening, with a predator mode of cloaking their visibility. Through their ability, they contribute to the horror element of the story which is quite satisfying.

The characters, both primary and supporting cast are more than cardboard cutouts too. The main character, Nolan is well crafted, well rounded and does not come across as an invincible superhero. He is a man with flaws and weaknesses, making him a worthy character to invest in over the next books in this trilogy. There are some love interests in the form of Katherine, who plays a major role in the political intrigue that builds throughout the story.

The character base is strengthened having several strong female casts such as Hannan and Julliard- bridge personnel and combatant respectively. They act with agency along with some wonderful supporting Tigris character, Lena who belongs to the feline species. Then there is Mills, the sniper, who is an understated enigma- and all these personalities are well fleshed with their quirks and foibles. In addition the author gives us insights on how developed his characters in the 21-day challenge videos on YouTube.

Destroyer is a simple read in the best sense of the word. The story pace is set to the maximum with short, and gripping chapters. The story has a young adult feels as there is no overtly sexual references. In addition the story has undertones of Star Trek and Star Wars but not in a plagiaristic way. The combat scenes are beautifully crafted and will make you the reader experience them first hand. In addition, the Tigris race grows on you. There are different sub-species from tigers, lions to snow leopards. Different authors used feline characters, but none have mixed that with science fiction. The strengths of Chris Fox’s books include characterisation, plot, and readability. The writer is more economical with words, and there are no occasions where you will feel lost with the plot or the flow of the story.

Destroyer is precisely what you would get with a Military Space Opera, with lots of great characters, excellent action, and an enemy to be refuted. The author has done a fantastic job of creating a plotline that’s not original but makes his own by adding innovative tweaks and twists to make it unique. The story follows different characters, Nolan, an officer who’s been exiled to the 14th fleet to a ship called the Johnston, out on the edges of space. His captain Dryker is a veteran from a war with a wild species known as Tigris. The humanity and Tigris are now under a delicate peace treaty, seen over by a dominant race known as the Primos. But after an incident with Tigris, Dryker and Nolan realise something weird going on and that aspects of the military and government have been compromised. This results in a thrilling action story, as Johnstone’s crew must overcome high stakes to not only save themselves but also save other planets and galaxy.

Chris Fox has crafted an intriguing universe with some interesting technology. The characters are exceptional and contribute to the sweetness of the story. It’s not just about the main characters, but also the secondary characters- especially Tigris- that make this an engaging read. The author has put so many efforts and times into other races as well as their backstories, hence giving them more depth and making the story much better. There are some cast that is barely in the narrative but has their tale, and this adds up much to the story. Lastly the ship combat scenes are quite amazing, and the descriptions are great such that you feel like you’re on the bridge.

Tech Mage

Tech Mage is the first book in the Magitech Chronicles series by Chris Fox. Imagine all the futuristic world of starship combat, but then blending it with elements of Mages that weave magic through glyphs in the air to create complex spells to either cast offensive or defensive spells. That toss in armor specially designed to battle in these circumstances along with rifles and pistols capable of casting magic at different levels depending on the hour.

Some potions allow for a range of different things depending on the person who made the potion- amplification, healing, invisibility. Then there is Kros, an enemy whose friends are Void Wyrms/ Dragon. Then there are starships, with spell drives and spell cannons, casting defensive and offensive magic against the Void Wyrms in space.

The main story kicks off with main character, Aran awakening with no memory, and is informed that he’s been wipe and now a property of some slave masters. He strikes a friendship with other slaves and through a series of events they are transferred to another slave name Nara. Again through a series of events, Nara and Aran end up with a Major of the Confederate Army. They are all that stands between Krox and the army of dragons and a planet full of people.

I read all your books and need an understanding of the timeline history. What comes first; void wrath then, magna tech and then shattered gods? Where does deathless fall? You seem to be bringing all together but I can’t figure the timeline of the events, not when you published them.
    Appreciate your thoughts,
    Joe

just finished the magitech omnibus, then found two more books in that series. I also would like a list of books in timeline order, not just published order, as I’m not sure they are the same. would love to read the other series but unsure were to go next.
