Tracy Hickman was born in the year 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1974, he graduated from Provo High School, where major interests were in Air Force JROTC, Drama, and music.

The next year, he started two years of service as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His original posting was for six months in Hawaii before a visa was approved for him, and he was able to move out to Indonesia. While here, he served as a missionary in Surabaya, Jakarta, as well as the mountain city of Bandung before he left in the year 1977.

Both Tracy and Laura wrote the original versions of the modules, called “Pharaoh” and “Rahasia”, together and published them privately. In the year 1981, Tracy entered into a business arrangement in order to produce an arcade immersion game, but an associate working on the project left the Hickmans with thirty thousand dollars worth of bad checks to cover.

Since they were destitute, Tracy sent the modules to TSR, Inc. so that he could buy shoes for his kids. The company wanted the modules, but also hired Tracy as well, finding it would be easier to publish these adventures with Tracy part of the company.

He worked as a movie projectionist, a supermarket boy, a drill press operator, and a theater manager all before he got a job with TSR. This job lead to his association with Margaret Weis and their creation of the “Dragon Lance Chronicles”.

He is married to Laura Hickman, his high school sweetheart and also a writer. Life has afforded them the chance to fulfill their dream of writing novels together. They work from their adjoining offices in their home. Together, they have four kids.

Tracy remains active in his church and pursues quite a few hobbies, including models, singing, guitar, piano, Blu-ray and DVD movies (although he believes HD-DVD was the better format), animation, television production, and computer games. He enjoys reading histories, biographies, and popular science books.

Pyramid magazine named Tracy Hickman one of The Millennium’s Most Influential Persons in the realm of adventure gaming.

“The Will of the Wanderer” is the first novel in the “Rose of the Prophet” series, which was released in the year 1988. Since the dawn of time, twenty Gods have ruled over the universe. Despite having their own abilities, each one is all-powerful in their own realm. One of the Gods has just upset the balance of power, which leaves the others scrambling for control within the new order.

Akhran the Wanderer, the God of the desert, declares two clans have to band together despite their ancient rivalry, their initial response is outrage. They are a devout folk and reluctantly bow to his bidding.

Enemies since birth, the impetuous Princess Zohra and the headstrong Prince Khardan have to wed to stop Quar, the God of Reality, Law, and Greed from enslaving their people.

Will Zohra and Khardan be able to stop themselves from betraying each other? Will their two peoples be able to maintain their fragile alliance until the legendary Rose of the Prophet’s long-awaited flowering?

Against Amir’s powerful legions of evil, Zohra and Khardan have to fight in order to save the desert people. It is a fight that is unexpectedly joined by Matthew, an exiled wizard, and the mysterious powers of his alien land.

“The Paladin of the Night” is the second novel in the “Rose of the Prophet” series, which was released in the year 1989. The Great War of the Gods meaningless to the proud people on the mortal planet. Until Akhran the Wandering God decrees two mighty feuding clans’ union. The families are fierce Warriors, but their numbers are small. Even Zohra and Khardan’s marriage is not at all enough to overpower the strength of the invading army or keep the imprisonment of their own peoples.

Now, with Zohra and Khardan’s mysterious disappearance, who appear to be cowards that hid from certain defeat, the two clans have lost any hope of ever seeing their open skies ever again. Princess Zohra and Prince Khardan, with the help of Matthew the wizard, have another mission. One that appears at first glance to be far less useful than counting all the grains of the sands in the deserts, but quickly proves to be of much more lasting importance.

“Eventide” is the first novel in the “Dragon’s Bard” series, which was released in the year 2010. Jarod Klum was once trapped in his tiny life in the tiny village of Eventide and did not see any chance to escape. He would not ever be worthy of the lady of his dreams, nor would he achieve great deeds of valor and never get remembered in either story or song.

It is not that he is without dreams of his own. He dreamed them each night; of rescuing Caprice Morgan the imperiled from some horrible rampaging monster or marauding pirates that somehow came up the river or of coming back from a fantastic Quest beyond the boundaries of the village laden with treasure that he was able to lay at Caprice’s appreciative feet.

Each morning he woke up in his straw bed, knowing he was only Jarod Klum. That is, until the coming of the Dragon’s Bard.

The Dragon’s Bard was able to convince Jarod to win his fair Caprice through some heroic deeds of a much more manageable scale. It sets Jarod off on a course of some misadventures that turns the entire town on its head. His single-minded pursuit of his greatest, if broken, wish continues to escalate until the last thing left for him to do is to become a slayer of dragons and save the town from a ferocious and legendary monster that everybody fears but nobody has ever seen.

Readers enjoyed the story, especially for the way it resembles a fairy tale. You slowly get to know each of the people that lives in Eventide. Readers enjoyed, too just how the story is told, the touches of humor, and the delivery.
