Growing up with a keen love of Harlequin romance novels, the American writer Tara Taylor Quinn was born and raised in the state of Ohio, as she would grow up to harbor a passion for the written word, especially in the form of romance literature, something which she continues to produce to this very day, bringing out a large number of books on a regular basis, with over eighty titles under her belt so far. This has lead to her becoming one of the most prolific authors currently working within the industry today, bringing in readers from far and wide, with her inventive style of prose and her highly creative take upon the genre. Resonating with readers on an emotional level, she really draws them in, allowing them to essentially feel as though they’re a part of the narrative themselves, getting involved with the characters and the story. This has become true for readers on a global scale, which is largely due to the universal appeal of her work, as it manages to reach readers on a personal level, creating a sense of intimacy quite unlike any other. Showing a deep and embedded respect for the for the craft, her love for the form shines through upon every page, as she manages to infect the reader with her own sense of joy and love for the form. She does this through carefully creating worlds, paying attention to detail at every step of the way, along with setting up characters that are fully three-dimensional in both their outlooks and their personalities. This then allows readers to find something of themselves in the relationships that are portrayed, along with giving them something that’s both different and unique in the process. Over the years she has also created a number of series too, building entire franchises that have gained momentum along with an ever loyal audience. An ideal example of this would be that of her much loved ‘Where Secrets Are Safe’ series of novels, as it has been running for quite some time now. Set around a women’s shelter called ‘The Lemonade Stand’, it follows the many lives and loves of the various inhabitants coming to and from there. These ostensibly involve a collection of stories that are thematically connected, with stand-alone titles that the reader can casually pick up at any point, whilst also providing recurring elements for the returning fans as well.
Running for over fifteen books so far and counting, this series initially started out in 2014 with the novel ‘Wife by Design’ and it has come a long way since then. With the books being quickly released in a relatively short amount of time, as they published in quick succession of one another, this is perhaps one of Quinn’s most prolific series to date. Standing the test of time for many years to come, this has plenty of room to carry on expanding indefinitely, as the franchise grows from strength-to-strength on a worldwide scale, with readers from far and wide discovering it with every passing day.
Wife by Design
Brought out through the Harlequin publishing label, this would come to exemplify Quinn’s love of the publishing house and her passion for the craft too. Released on the 4th of Febuary in 2014, it would mark the first title in the ‘Where Secrets Are Safe’ series, allowing it to establish both its style and its tone. The characters would also be the focus of this self-contained romance, whilst there would be elements foreshadowing the forthcoming novels too.
With this series being ostensibly a collection of self-contained stories, this does its best to establish the overall themes of the franchise as a whole. Following the character of Lynn Duncan, it sees her as she attempts to balance both her working and romantic life at the same time. It also works to establish the Californian setting of The Lemonade Stand itself, it being the very crux of the entire series overall.
Working at The Lemonade Stand, Lynn Duncan has been building a life for herself there at the women’s shelter for many years now, with the shelter itself being supported by many businesses. Being a nurse practitioner herself, as well as a single mother, Lynn believes you make your own lemonade, which is the ethos of the shelter overall. That’s when Grant Bishop, a landscape gardener, turns up on the scene, as he regularly visits the shelter with his disabled brother for physiotherapy sessions. How will they deal with their intense attraction to one another? Can they balance work and romance? Who will become a wife by design?
Once a Family
Published through the Harlequin publishing outlet once more, this would now show the author in full swing. Released on the 3rd of June in 2014, it would come out not long after the first. With the world already being firmly established, it would jump straight into the next romance story, further developing the world as a whole.
This time the story follows Sedona Campbell, an attorney who is working at The Lemonade Stand, providing her services to those that need them. That’s when Tatum Malone turns up, a fifteen year old girl who claims that it’s her brother and not her boyfriend that’s been abusing her. Meeting Tanner Malone, the brother, Sedona and him soon find themselves falling for each other, as they attempt to work out why the sister he’s been caring for all these years could potentially be lying. What really is the truth behind it all? Can they overcome their difficulties and be free to pursue a relationship? Who was once a family?
The Where Secrets Are Safe Series
As not only an example the romance genre, but what Tara Taylor Quinn has to offer overall, this series really is a great read for both fans of the author and the genre as a whole. Knowing and understand her craft right down to the last degree, there is plenty to get involved with here, as it really takes on a life of its own as the series progresses. Not showing signs of stopping anytime soon either, this is one series that will carry on into the foreseeable future for quite some time yet.
