Author Shamini Flint was born on October 26, 1969 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She got her Law Masters at the University of Cambridge, UK in 1994 and 1995. Flint lives in Singapore with her husband, Simon Flint and their two kids, Spencer and Sasha.

Before becoming an author in the year 2004, she worked as a corporate lawyer at Linklaters, an international law firm. She is known for her work to promote fair trade products within Singapore. Flint donates a portion of the proceeds her environmental book titles to WWF.

Flint earned the Council of Legal Education Prize for having one of the highest overall scores for her Bar Finals sat at Trinity College, London in the year 1993.

She traveled all over Asia for her job, before she quit her job to write, be a stay-at-home mother, lecture part-time, and be an environmental activist. This was all done in an effort to make up for her “evil” past working as a corporate lawyer.

The Telegraph, UK honored “A Most Peculiar Malaysian Murder” under their Recommended Weekly Special while they confirmed the writing’s quality and its successful launch.

She writes books for kids that feature environmental and cultural themes, and writes crime fiction. For adults she writes the “Inspector Singh Investigates” series. For kids, she writes the “Diary” series, the “Sasha in Singapore” series, and the “Susie K Files” series, as well as some picture books.

“A Most Peculiar Malaysian Murder” is the first novel in the “Inspector Singh Investigates” series, which was released in the year 2009. Inspector Singh is currently in a bad mood. He has just been sent from Singapore off to Kuala Lumpur to work a murder case that has him stumped at the moment.

Chelsea Liew, who is the famous Singaporean model, is currently on death row for killing her ex-husband. She swears that she isn’t the one that did it, and he believes she didn’t do it. The problem is that no matter how hard he keeps trying to get to the bottom of it all, the more he gets back to the fact that Chelsea’s husband was shot up close, and Chelsea had the best motive to kill him. He was about to take her kids away from her.

Singh has to pull out all the stops to solve a crime that may free an innocent and beautiful woman and reunite a mom with her kids. There is only a single problem. The Malaysian police are refusing to play ball.

Singh is incredibly skilled at what he does, and is not at all a cookie cutter of a detective. The book features a cast of interesting characters (that includes many suspects with strong motives), excellent writing, and vivid descriptions of the exotic locale.

“A Bail Conspiracy Most Foul” is the second novel in the “Inspector Singh Investigates” series, which was released in the year 2009. A bomb was detonated in the most touristy part of Bali and Singh has been assigned to help with anti-terrorist and security measures. Quickly, however, the Bali police realize Singh has got little to offer them in terms of actual experience in this field.

He is much better at doing what he is good at, which is solving the murder. Simple enough. There is a body found in all of the wreckage, murdered with a bullet before the bomb was detonated. Singh should be just the one to be able to find the answers. Simple killings are not at all as simple as they appear to be. This one seems to have far reaching political consequences.

The book does a great job of taking you to Bali and feeling the oppressive heat, the crazy drivers, Hindu temples, and devout citizens. Singh is very interesting and is a clever cop, all while he expresses his desires to go home and talks about his difficult wife and his expanding belly. Bronwyn is very likable and is able to hold her own during the investigation, despite not having any experience with murder cases.

“Singapore School of Villainy” is the third novel in the “Inspector Singh Investigates” series, which was released in the year 2010. Singh is currently home, and he wishes now he wasn’t. His wife is nagging him at breakfast and his superiors are giving him their typical “you’re a disgrace to the police force” lecture. There is no rest for the wicked, which is good news for Singh, as he gets called out to the killing of a senior partner of an international law firm who was clubbed to death while he was at his desk.

There is no shortage of suspects, which is bad news for Singh. There is the victim’s fellow partners, to his ex-wife, or his current wife. There are many motives, too because many of the lawyers are keeping secrets they would kill to keep. Quickly, Singh finds that he is heading up an investigation that rips to shreds Singapore’s society. It exposes the rotten core lying underneath. Maybe coming back home was not really a good idea after all.

Flint does a great job of capturing the atmosphere in Singapore, and describes how prejudice affects expats and locals. She takes the reader through all of the evidence. It makes you jump to conclusions and continue to guess at who the killer is.

“A Deadly Cambodian Crime Spree” is the fourth novel in the “Inspector Singh Investigates” series, which was released in the year 2011. Singh is currently in Cambodia this time around, and he wishes he weren’t. He has been sent off as an observer to the international war crimes tribunal over in Phnom Penh in the latest attempt by his superior officers to make sure he is anywhere but Singapore.

For the first time, though, this fat Sikh Inspector is close to losing his appetite when an important member of the tribunal gets killed cold blood. The authorities are ready to write the incident off as just a random act of violence, but Singh believes otherwise. Quickly, he finds that he is caught up in one of the most horrible murder cases he has ever seen. The roots of this case are in the dark depths of the killing fields in Cambodia.
