About J.C. Hulsey
A novelist and writer well regarded for his unique style of prose, as well as his compelling characters, American author J.C. Hulsey has been writing for quite some time now. Whether it’s writing poetry or crafting tightly knit stories, he’s always capable of keeping the reader enraptured with his words. Creating novels from a historical perspective, as well as a Western one, he has created iconic characters known for their charismatic appeal that endure long after the book has been finished. This has led to him achieving a worldwide level of success over the years, as he has gone on to create some extremely successful series. With an action packed style, he knows just the right moment to take the tension up a level, constantly building to the final thrilling climax.
He is also well known for writing stand-alone novels as well, with many themes and ideas recurring to him, something which his fans have come to appreciate him for. Using many tropes and ideas from older Western television shows and literature, he has managed to craft something all of his very own that’s idiosyncratic entirely to him. With a lot more to come in the near future, he will continue to write for a long time yet, as his writing career grows from strength-to-strength.
Early and Personal Life
Born in San Angelo, Texas, in the United States, J.C. Hulsey would grow up with a keen passion for the written word. Writing songs in his early twenties, he was always looking for ways to express himself creatively, before recording some songs of his own in the late 1960s. This would pave the way to him writing extensively, focusing on poetry for a period, all of which would lead to the style which he currently employs today. Living in Midlothian, Texas, for over thirty years and counting, he has also been married to his wife for over fifty-five years as well. Taking his cue from a number of Westerns, he has found a niche all of his very own, as he puts out work at a regular and consistent pace.
Writing Career
Knowing he always wanted to write ever since he could remember, J.C. Hulsey would put pen to paper from an early age. Working his way towards writing poetry in the 1970s, he would later go on to publish work through Amazon, self-publishing through the platform in 2013. Serving in the US Air Force for a period of time would also provide him with a certain amount of experience for writing as well. This would last for five years, whilst his time in the National Air Guard would last for four, leading to him becoming the writer he currently it today.
Itching Tree, Idaho
Originally published in 2014 on the 25th of August, this would mark the fifth title in the ongoing series of books known as ‘The Traveler’. Following on from the previous titles it chart the exploits of a young Christian gunslinger on the trail and his various adventures along the way. Featuring a whole variety of different adventures it manages to incorporate a number of different stories and ideas into this intriguing Western series.
Fun and exciting in equal measure, this really understands its Western roots well, whilst also taking elements of real history too. This then gives it a sense of authenticity that it wouldn’t otherwise have had, allowing it to feel grounded for the reader whilst they lose themselves within its immersive world. The characters are also integral to this, as they become wholly real throughout, feeling three-dimensional, each with their own distinctive personalities. Bringing the West to life, Hulsey manages to transport the reader to another world and another time, whilst paving the way for future titles in the process too.
After the settlers first arrived to their new home, they would come across a strange and mysterious tree covered with poison oak and ivy. Every time someone would go near it they would become contaminated, leaving them to itch for days, and even weeks afterwards. This led the town to be named Itching Tree, Idaho, as they would attempt to remove the tree of all its poison, as it was the only one to have it. Then, one day, the poison is suddenly removed from the tree, leaving them to wonder how this miracle happened and where it went. Can they discover the truth behind this secret? Where will this mystery take them all? Who was responsible for removing the poison ivy in Itching Tree, Idaho?
Rebecca
First published in 2015 on the 31st of May this time, this wouldn’t be a part of any series as such, working entirely as a stand-alone story. Initially published through the ‘Outlaws Publishing’ label, it would feature many of the ideas and themes that Hulsey had now become well known for. Not failing to disappoint either, it would deliver everything that his fans had now come to expect as well, along with a few extra twists and turns along the way.
Combining a number of different genres, this works in creating something entirely of its own, allowing the reader to discover something new. With three compelling characters, Hulsey never forgets their motivation at the center of the story, giving the narrative a real sense of heart. The world that it’s set within is also one that is extremely well established too, coming to life with a real sense of purpose. Painting vivid pictures and landscapes with his words, Hulsey crafts an intriguing and highly immersive story for the reader.
Focusing upon the character of Rebecca, this Western period set drama looks at the family that she finds herself within. With three people at the center of the narrative, it sees a man, a woman and a child come together to help each other get through. When a young girl is discovered within a barn, the three of them become a whole unit, as the man helps the Sheriff to solve a series of mysteries. Featuring a stagecoach robber among other things, the story builds itself around a series of events that draw them all together. Who are they all and can they all find themselves? Where will their journey take each of them? How will they all come to find Rebecca?
