February 2019: Books I Read Last Month

Well I was in a bit of a reading funk for the last couple of months but luckily that is now over.
One of my favourite authors is Gregg Hurwitz and I’ve read all of his standalones. For some reason I just can’t get into his book series at all past the first one.
For example I read the first book in the Tim Rackley series and loved it. I then read the next two books before giving up. Just wasn’t hooking me.
I had the same issue with the Orphan X series. I thought the first book was incredible. One of the best books I’d read all year. However I struggled big time on the second book. I decided to give it another try reading Hellbent the third book in the series and man – that was what put me in a funk. I just couldn’t finish it.
Finally I gave up and went with the latest book in the Peter Ash series by Nicholas Petrie. Yet another home run by Nick with Tear It Down and he is just an incredible author. If you are a fan of Jack Reacher I’ve said it before many times but my gosh you need to read this series.
Out of the funk, I read The Warning by Kathryn Croft. Croft is a bit hit and miss and this one I found more “miss” than hit. There was good parts to it but the ending was very frustrating. Basically a character who had been narrating part of the book and was mysterious was conjured up out of thin air – they had never been mentioned in the book and the big reveal meant nothing. Very weird and disappointing.
To wrap up the month, I read the first standalone by Hank Phillippi Ryan, called Trust Me. I’m a big fan of standalone novels because it’s a sign they have a unique idea. This one…..eh. It was an interesting writing style and something different I guess. However I have a lot of issues with it and so overall quite disappointed.
But hey I am reading again and that’s all that matters.
What have you read this month?

I have also been having issues with some books lately. I don’t know if it is the books I am picking out or the mood that I am in. I did pick up the first Pete Ash book per your recommendation. It was very good. Thank you.
