Jeff Shaara, a son of Italian immigrant, was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1952.The boy was brought up in Tallahassee, Florida. In 1974, Jeff graduated with a degree in criminology from Florida State University.At the age of 16, he operated a rare coin business, initially out of his home and then in a retail store. Later he moved to Tampa, where he became one among the most known precious and coin-metals dealers in Florida. Jeff’s father known as Michael Shaara died in 1988.Due to death of his father, Jeff sold his business and took over the management of the estate of his father. His father was a prolific writer of novels

When the motion picture called the “Gettysburg” was released in 1993, based on his father’s novel, called “The killer Angels,” Jeff was approached and persuaded to continue the story of his father or find a person who can write the prequel and sequel to the novel, The Killer Angels. This was after critical and commercial success of film .After much thinking and some considerable soul-searching, he decided to make a trial in tackling the project himself. His decision lead to difficult in various ways. The challenged he encountered were because he had no previous experience in writing.

In 1996, Jeff’s first novel was published by Ballantine Books publishers. The novel was known as “Gods and Generals” and was the prequel to great work of his father. The novel got onto Bestseller List of New York Times, and remained there for about fifteen weeks. All the Critics nationwide praised Jeff writing ability and the book .The novel was awarded the “Boyd Award” which is the American Library Association’s Prestigious award. Everybody including Jeff himself was surprised .The novel focuses on the events that occurred between 1858 and 1863 during the civil wars in America and ends as two armies are marching toward Gettysburg. Jeff copied his father approach where he focused on important officer of the two armies who included lieutenant colonel Joshua chamberlain, Lt. gen. Thomas, major Gen. Winfield Scotthan Cock and General Robert E. Lee. He depicts emotional drama of soldiers fighting against their old friends .The author Shaara, also reveals accurately the historical details including strategies, troop movements and tactical combat situations .The novel shows that General Hancock dread of the day he will fire on his old friend called Lewis in the confederate army. The novel also reveals General Lee’s disillusionment with Confederate bureaucracy and also the General Jackson’s religious fervor. More over the book covers all the events leading to the war.It include the battles of the first Bull Run, second Bull Run, Williams burg, Antietam, Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg. The film version of the book covers immediate pre-war events. The film focuses mainly on Lee , Secession of Virginia and omits battle of Antietam.

In 1998, Jeff Shaara come up with the sequel, “the last full measure” .The novel was published with same result as “the Gods and General”. The novel remained top on the Bestseller list for thirteen weeks on the New York Times it gained universal praise from fans and critics nationwide. Employing similar styles as the other novels, the author lead the readers to the most important soldiers of the confederate and union army as they reorganize after Gettysburg and progress on into final 2 years of war.In the novel ,you will find Gen, Robert Lee and Brigadier Gen Joshua chamberlain who is newly promoted. Also the novel features a new lieutenant Gen. Ulysses grant who control Northern troops after many commanders failed to ensure victory. The author gives a detailed information about honorable men whose egotism, heroism and incompetence changed course of history of United States from overland campaign to siege of Peters burg and from home of chamberlain in Maine to Appomattox Court House. The title of the novel comes from a certain line in the Gettysburg’s address which commit them to be dedicated task remaining untackled. After the civil era Jeff’s next two novels were the glorious cause and rise to rebellion which hack readers back to the American Revolution. The novel narrate the stories through the eyes of history of American of most illustrious and significant characters. The stories have been told in 3rd person tone.

Many of his book has been made into movies and have performed exemplary well. Jeff fiction work on battlefield is unique and popular in about 10 of the highly valuable piece of hallowed grounds. Due to this, he was named to serve on Board of trust for civil war trust. His 8th book called, the rising tide published in 2006 November, gave the first trilogy after an extraordinary cast of characters in European theater of Second World War. That book was #8 on New York Times list of bestseller. The 2nd in series was the steel wave following the key characters from the Normandy invasion. It was released in May 2008 and was New York Times bestseller. The 3rd of trilogy, was called “no less than victory” and was released on November 2009. Quickly became Jeff’s ninth bestseller.

The author eleventh book called the final storm was released 2011. The novel completes the WW2 series by narrating the story of end of war in the Pacific .The book made was ranked at #6 on NY Times Bestseller list.

The author’s new series began with release of “a bizarre glory” in 2012. The first of four books deal with Civil War in “west” and consist of a the book, which covers the Battle of Shiloh, “a chain of thunder” was the second volume, released on May, 2013, and was Jeff’s twelfth bestseller which dealt with campaign and siege of the Vicksburg. The two works which are the next, featuring Chattanooga and final campaigns concerning Sherman and Atlanta through end of the war in Carolinas, was to be published a year apart. “THE SMOKE AT DAWN” was released on June, 2014. Fourth book, will be released on late spring, 2015.

In 2011, Jeff was recognized two times by his former, Florida State University. On September the same year, Jeff was inducted into the “College of Criminology in Hall of the Fame” .During the Homecoming on November, Jeff was awarded an award of school’s FIRST annual “Distinguished Writer’s. The author has also received Lincoln Forum’s prestigious awards which include “Richard Nelson Current”, “Bell Wiley” from New York Civil War Round Table and “Distinguished Author Award”, from Nathan Bed-ford Forrest Historical Society.

After staying for a number of years in Florida, New York and in the mountains of Montana, the author has completed a new home recently in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

    I have every book of yours that you have created and published, I really love your books! I look forward to reading more of them. I have every series of your work from your two books about the American Revolution to your series of the Second World War. The newest ones I have read: TO WAKE THE GIANT, and I still have yet to read: THE EAGLE’S CLAW. But, I also need to purchase THE SHADOW OF WAR and THE OLD LION. Again, I really enjoy your books!
