In the Thief Taker books, author Quinn talks about thief takers, who were active in London during the 1660s. They used to solve cases that were not regarded as important enough to be taken up by the dignified watchmen of London. Mostly, poorer men used to approach the thief takers, who had faced a theft or crime. They would ask for justice for the injustice done to them. A thief taker would try to track down the culprits and make them pay for causing injustice to poor innocent people. Usually, the cases taken up by thief takers included getting back the properties of their clients or catching thieves and turning them to higher authorities. And, as the punishments given to criminals were very barbaric, including chopping off of hands, cutting noses, or other body parts, etc., thief takers use to let go the criminals with a warning or much dangerous consequences if they dare to indulge in criminal activities again. One such thief taker that Quinn has described in her novels is Charlie Tuesday. He is depicted as the chief protagonist in all her books. Charlie Tuesday resides in London and tries to make the city a better place for living by fighting smaller crimes and solving mysterious cases. Charlie Tuesday is seen being assisted in his efforts by another important character named Anna-Marie. In each book, these characters are depicted taking a stand against brutal murderers and deadly criminals, and attempting to prevent the spreading of a crime wave in London.

The Thief Taker series written by author C.S. Quinn is comprised of 4 novels and 1 novella in total, released between 2014 and 2018. Each book in this series features the lead characters in the roles of Charlie Tuesday, Anna-Marie, and a few others. Quinn has done the setting of all the books’ plots in London in the 17th century. The debut book of this series is entitled ‘The Thief Taker’. It was published in 2014 by the Thomas and Mercer publishers. At the book’s start, it is shown that a girl is found gruesomely murdered. When Charlie Tuesday is asked to take up the case, he seems reluctant but agrees to investigate. Just by looking at the remains of the dead body, Charlie is able to make out that it is not an ordinary murder. He senaes that the killer has mad appetites and indulges in horrific practices to fulfill them. After some further investigation, Charlie Tuesday finds that the killer has a master plan for destroying the very foundations of London. Thief Taker Charlie Tuesday urgency of the situation in catching the killer and stopping him from spreading the murderous plague on every street of London. The pursuit of the murderous mastermind takes Charlie Tuesday into the deep underbelly of London and into his own past. He finds evidences of witchcraft, blood-spells, and alchemy being prevalent in the society and a killer using them to stage the murders. Charlie races against time to hunt down the murderer and prevent the killing of any other innocent person.

Another intriguing story of this series is called ‘Death Magic’. It was published in 2015 and continues to show Anna-Marie and Charlie Tuesday in the main roles. The setting takes place in the year 1663 in London. At the story’s beginning, Quinn is described that a young girl, a maid-servant, is found murdered in her attic that is filled with charms. The case again comes to Charlie Tuesday, who discovers some strange protectorates in the attic room of the murdered servant. It is also found that the servant has been of a silver thimble, and no one is able to explain as to how she came to possess it. Charlie Tuesday suspects another sinister play and believes the servant was involved in some witchcraft or blood-spell activity.

The more Charlie investigates, the more he comes across disturbing things that confirm his suspicion of the presence of witchcraft on the streets of London. His attempt is not to go after the murderer, but find the thimble because it holds some important answers to the questions related to the servant’s brutal murder. Once he succeeds in it, he moves ahead to catch the killer and solve the disturbing mystery. The story mentioned in this book is very intriguing. It depicts a mind blowing plot, filled with surprises and twists at every turn. The readers felt glued to the book till the very last page. Another fascinating aspect of the story is the depiction of the plague and the victims suffering from it. Quinn has given an excellent description of the conditions of plague victims at that time, which seem just the way they actually were. The book attracted a lot of readers and received appreciation from critics as well as fellow authors.
