She is depicted as a special agent working for the FBI. Author Kendra has described Mercy Kilpatrick as having been brought up in a cabin in Central Oregon. She was raised by her prepper dad. Immediately after finishing high school, Mercy was forced to move out of the tight community. She did not look back since then. Another important characters mentioned in the books is Truma Daly. He is shown as the police chief of the small town of Central Oregon where Mercy Kilpatrick grew up. Several years pass by after the moving out of Mercy Kilpatrick and her town becomes full of murderers and criminals.

As the series progresses, the readers get to read about the various ups and downs in Mercy Kilpatrick’s life as she attempts to bring back peace in her small town. Author Kendra has mentioned several intriguing twists and turns throughout the series that are quite interesting to read. This series became extremely popular right from its first novel. The debut book of the Mercy Kilpatrick series is entitled ‘A Merciful Death’. It was released by the Montlake Romance publication in the year 2017. At the start of the story of the book, it is shown that FBI agent Mercy has been looking for the striking of a disaster her entire life. She spent her early life as prepper and used to lived in Eagle’s Nest. But, her family was torn apart by a tragedy and made her leave home. Several years later, Mercy Kilpatrick comes to know that the village’s survivors are being hunted by a evil man who calls himself cave-man. Many of the villagers have already been murdered. Mercy learns that the cave-man has stolen a weapons in huge numbers and is planning to carry out a terrorist attack. She visits a crime scene that reminds her of one unsolved mystery from her past. The FBI asks Mercy Kilpatrick to assist the local authorities in Eagle’s Nest. Her return to the town makes Mercy face her devastated family. Mercy teams up with Truman Daly, the police chief. He informs her that his uncle was the last victim of the cave-man. The two begins searching for clues to predict the cave-man’s next move and hunt him down before he takes another innocent life.

The series’ next volume is known as ‘A Merciful Truth’. It was also published by Montlake Romance in 2017. Once again, the setting is done in Oregon, United States, and Truman Daly & Mercy Kilpatrick are mentioned as the primary characters. At the beginning of the book’s story, it is described that Mercy Kilpatrick is capable of taking on any form of challenge as he comes from a survivalist family. She sees her hostile reception back in her hometown as a challenge and makes up her mind to deal with it. After dealing the first mystery following her return, Mercy gets involved in another. Several fires breakouts take place in different parts of Eagle’s Nest. The incidents are initially seen as teenage pranks. But, when 2 deputy sheriffs are found murdered, the authorities start taking it seriously. Mercy Kilpatrick & Truman Daly join hands again to track down an arsonist-killer. Her family continues to shun her, which makes it difficult for her to pick up leads. Later, Mercy hears rumors about a growing militia movement against the government and suspects that the arsonist might be one among the militants. Her chase for the culprit lands her life in danger, but she doesn’t stop in hunting down arsonist and solving the mystery.
