Oops guess I missed last month so this will cover the last two months. Was just too busy reading!
August was a fun time as we went out to a cottage for the last week. This was a new cottage we had went to and it was amazing – had a hot tub and everything. Like with any trips I take I always try and start a new book series when on the trip so I can relate that trip to that book series.
The book series I went with for this one was recommended to me due to my liking Dark Matter by Blake Crouch – and that was the Brilliance trilogy by Marcus Sakey. What a excellent series that was. I enjoyed it so much and it’s highly recommended if you’re into sci-fi, but not SUPER into sci-fi know what I mean? More sci-fi lite I like to describe it.
Anyway this was a thoroughably enjoyable book series and one I’d highly recommend. I even recommended it in our monthly newsletter!
I started the Harry Bosch series of books as well. That was a book series I tried to read many years ago but couldn’t get into – it just felt flat and dull. I felt the same way when I went through it again last month and I struggled to finish The Black Echo. Glad I did however because the ending was excellent and highly satisfactory. It led me to read the next one and the next one and as of this writing I’ve just finished the fourth book in the series. The Last Coyote.
What I am doing is reading one Bosch book, one non-Bosch book just so I don’t get tired of the series basically. Can always have too much of a good thing. It’s funny because I find it makes my reading faster as I can’t wait to get to the next Bosch book and go through the non-Bosch books faster.
I’m a big fan of Cass Green and was looking forward to her latest book Don’t You Cry. This was another excellent book by her and she’s fast becoming one of my favourite authors. She’s already on my “blindly buy” list and I can’t wait to blindly pre-order her next book.
I read the latest book in the Spider Shepherd series by Stephen Leather which is called Tall Order. Another great book and I honestly don’t think there is a bad book that series. One of my favourites by far.
I did something rare which is QUIT reading a book and that was the latest book by Elisabeth Carpenter entitled 11 Missed Calls. I couldn’t get into any of the characters and it just felt extremely disappointing. I quit at the 25% portion of the book and haven’t thought about going back since. IT seemed like a character driven novel but the characters just weren’t appealing or intriguing at all.
