Diane Henders is a Canadian author responsible for the ‘Never Say Spy’ novels. Henders typically writes adventurous stories featuring kickass, foul-mouthed women in their forties and fifties.

+Biography
Diane Henders started producing fiction in 2011. She was so much older than most first-time authors, though that did not stop her from following her dreams.

Henders wore numerous hats over the years. She had a resume that inexplicably included stints as both an interior designer and a computer geek. She also worked as a technical writer, a role within which she thrived.

Henders’ love for fiction writing was ignited right around the time her mid-life crisis kicked in. ‘Aydan Kelly’, the character for which Henders is best known, was hardly the norm at the time.

It wasn’t a coincidence that the author decided to make her protagonist a burgeoning adventurer in her fifties. Diane Henders wasn’t particularly amused by the way the media had chosen to portray older women.

Every voice of significance in entertainment seemed thoroughly convinced that older women, especially those in their forties and fifties, were better off stepping out of the limelight and looking to their children to give their pathetic lives meaning.

As an older woman, Diane Henders had no interest in stepping aside and watching the younger women have all the fun. She also didn’t want to write about another teen or young adult just starting out in life.

Henders wanted her readers to realize that women could enter their forties without losing any of the attributes that made them so kickass. She was also determined to prove that age brought with it a strength, attitude, and confidence that was sorely lacking in younger women.

So she sat down to write the Aydan Kelly stories. It is worth mentioning that the author was initially hesitant to experiment with fiction. For some reason, she thought it was a little too personal.

She figured that if she went the way of fiction writing, people would start making connections between the things in her stories and her real life, and Henders wasn’t ready to let random strangers take a peek into her personal matters.

So when the desire to write fiction finally came, Diane Henders gave into it. A story took shape in her mind and she followed it to its intended destination, eventually settling down to chronicle it on paper.

But Henders had no intention of ever showing it to anyone. As she had feared, the character she had created looked a lot like her. And she knew that people would begin to assume that her heroine’s adventures were based on her own personal experiences.

So she wrote her story and kept it to herself. And for a while, Diane Henders was perfectly content with her decision. But then a new idea sprang into her mind and she wrote a second book.

And again, she managed to keep it a secret. But then the unexpected happened; a third story took shape in her mind and she eventually wrote a third novel. But this time, Henders wasn’t content to simply sit on it.

She wanted other people to read it. Henders initially attempted to go the traditional publishing route. She sent out a query to an agent. She would be the first to tell you that her experience wasn’t nearly as bad as that of most people.

In fact, Henders never truly gave traditional publishing a fair shake. She wasn’t even actually rejected. Rather, the agent she had reached out to happened to be out of town and he wouldn’t return for quite a few days.

But rather than waiting for him, Diane Henders decided that she preferred to take the indie publishing route because it would allow her greater control over her novels. So that is what she did.

Most aspiring authors in their forties and fifties might have balked at the effort required to self-publish a novel. But Henders has always had a hands-on personality. She loved doing things herself and she was more than happy to deal with the rigors of indie publishing.

Henders’ books normally standout because of her language. The author’s works are often littered with cursing. In fact, some readers have attested to being turned off from her stories because her characters use so many inventive curse words.

There was a time when Henders considered producing abridged versions of her stories, books whose coarse language had been scrubbed out. But then she realized that removing the filthy language would completely strip her characters of their personalities.

So she instead decided to warn her readers ahead of time, informing them that they were in for quite the potty-mouthed ride, giving them a chance to determine whether or not they wanted to proceed.

Aydan Kelly is forty-six years old woman. And while some people might consider some of her hobbies odd, the bookkeeper doesn’t really stand out. In fact, she was ready to retire, to leave the city for a rural community where she could bask in the tranquility of her new life.

But then bad guys came knocking on her door, determined to either capture or kill her. And then RCMP Officer John Kane leaped into action, taking the abductors out of the picture and rescuing Aydan.

Unfortunately for the bookkeeper, things are only starting to heat up. She seems to have stumbled into a conspiracy involving international espionage, and no one will believe her when she says she just another middle-aged woman.

Now Aydan must find a way to extricate herself from her current predicament; otherwise, she will end up either dead or in prison.

+The Spy Is Cast
Aydan Kelly was just a bookkeeper in her forties when she was drawn into the world of international espionage. Before long, she was recruited by a clandestine government agency. Now she is on a mission at a lavish gala affair.

Aydan thought the undercover operation would bring with it a lot of glamor. But then she realized that dangerous spies in possession of classified torture technology had discovered her presence.

Aydan must complete her mission whilst also keeping her true identity hidden.
