The Spy X series written by author Peter Lerangis is comprised of a total of 4 books, which were released between the years 2004 and 2006. The debut book of this series is entitled ‘The Code’. It was released by the Scholastic Paperbacks in the year 2004. Author Lerangis has mentioned the main characters in this book in the form of Andrew, Evie, and Mrs. Digitalis. At the start of the book’s story, Evie and Andrew are introduced as twelve year old twins. The story shows how the twins navigate through the maze of espionage and intrigue and try to find out the truth behind the disappearance of their mother. Their mother vanishes suddenly on the occasion of their 11th birthday and leaves behind a cryptic note.
A year passes after the disappearance and Andrew & Evie get a package. As they try to figure out what is contained in the mysterious package, they come to know that it has been sent to them by someone called Spy X. Intrigued by the unfolding of events, the twins learn that they will be led on an adventurous journey by the package’s contents and will be getting closer to knowing the truth about their mother’s sudden disappearance. However, one thing that they don’t know that there will be a lot of surprises and mysteries ahead in their path and the journey is not going to be an easy one. And just as they begin the incredible journey, the twins realize that they cannot trust anyone’s identity and must rely only on each other for completing the task they have taken up.
Another exciting novel of this series is called ‘Tunnel Vision’. It was also published by Scholastic publishers in 2006. Once again, Lerangis has described Evie, Andrew, and their mother in the lead roles. At the beginning of the story of the book, it is depicted that the twins finally get to meet their mother and learn that she is actually a spy working for an agency run by the government. Also, they come to know that their mother is on the run and the agency is behind her to get her back to working for them. When the kids’ mother could not keep herself away from her children for long, she decided to come out from her hiding place and meet her kids. But, knowing that the agency named Company, for which she used to work as a spy, is looking for her, she cannot keep herself out in the open for long.
So, she thinks of going underground again. Also, knowing that kid will not be safe without her, she brings them underground with her too. As the children have become used to visiting new places, it doesn’t look like a big deal to them to have a change of identities. They think it is going to be a fun-filled experience. Later, it strikes the kids that they will not only be leaving behind a town, but also their personalities and themselves. And in all this mess, they forget that they have to think about their father too. This book provides another exciting journey, filled with mysteries and surprises. It was liked by many readers and critics from across the world, who praised it with great reviews comments.
