Erik Hanberg wears many hats, some include: elected park commissioner, nonprofit coach, and novelist.

He has a fascination with both media and technology that can be seen the most in his science fiction series “The Lattice Trilogy”. It is set seventy years from present day and is about characters who struggle with the changing technology.

He podcasts with Brent Hartinger (who is also an author) at Media Carnivores, where they talk about trends (in books, film, and television) and news.

From his years working in nonprofit leadership and fundraising, he has written three books for tiny nonprofits to help with fund raising, effective board governance, and social media. Hanberg also consults with boards as well as executive directors on things such as: strategic planning, governance, raising funds, as well as other issues that arise with nonprofit organizations.

“The Saints Go Dying” is the first novel in the “Arthur Beautyman Mysteries” series, which was released in the year 2010. Arthur Beautyman used to be a computer hacker and later became a detective. He is now hunting for a serial killer that is killing modern day saints. There is another body every two months, and there is one less good person in the world.

There is this unscrupulous reality television series with the premise that the cops are both incompetent and corrupt show that works against him. While the public reaction intensifies and it pushes Beautyman’s resources to their limits, he goes back to his old habits as a computer hacker to find the necessary evidence he would never be able to legally.

He leaves a cyber trail on accident, and finds he is a target by a member of his department. She is not aware that the person she is tracking is right in the office next door to her. This is a lethal cat and mouse game set against Hollywood’s lights.

Here is a book that is worth the time it will take to read it. Fans of the novel found this to be well written with a good plot to it. Some enjoyed how the mystery played out, and the main character was quite an interesting one with all of his quirks and abilities to be able to solve the crime. The novel made some want to find more of this author’s works. The main character is a great hero, and some want to read more books about the guy.

“The Marinara Murders” is the second novel in the “Arthur Beautyman Mysteries” series, which was released in the year 2011. Arthur is disgraced and living in his mom’s basement; he is fully aware that his life has just dropped off a cliff. That is not to say he is at all happy with his mom’s plan to soothe his woes. She has signed him up to solve her favorite bridge partner’s case.

A young man’s body, who went missing three years ago, is found in an icy lake loacted in Minnesota after the guy was drowned. It is found the day of his father’s restaurant is having its grand opening. He was only drowned three days ago, where was he all that time before?

How is his death connected to the restaurant? So that his mother will get off of his back, he takes on the case. He finds out that she wants to be his partner on the case, too.

Here is another entertaining mystery Fans of the novel found the writing to be lively and light. There is a fast pace and many twists and turns throughout. The book even has a solid mystery in it, too.

“The Lead Cloak” is the first novel in the “Lattice” series, which was released in the year 2013. Byron Shaw is able to track and locate anybody on planet Earth. That is, except for the people that tried to murder him. There is no privacy in the year 2081.

With The Lattice, you re-live any moment of your entire life. People are able to experience present or past events, or even see into anyone’s mind. It does not matter if they are alive or deceased. A lot of people love this ability, while some would like to destroy this ability.

Colonel Byron Shaw just saved the Lattice from its most dangerous attack in the entire history of it. He has to find the ones responsible. There is a question that no one is asking: is the Lattice something that deserves to be saved? The answer might just cost him his life.

Fans of the novel takes an issue of modern times, and puts it into the high stress of the future and plays it out. This is a great read with a world that is fully realized and some characters that feel like they are human. The things that will be different in the future were written in a very believable way and there was a highly entertaining plot throughout.

“The Iron Harvest” is the second novel in the “Lattice” series, which was released in the year 2016. Hiding comes easy. Surviving is the hard part. The entire world is on a manhunt for Byron Shaw. Anywhere he goes, he finds more and more danger. Anyone who assists him in anyway risks their very life.

Shaw has to fight to get across two continents if he wants to see his own wife again, even with the global communication system that was destroyed by bound society. It is unfortunate for him, then, that he has to get past those that are attempting to rebuild the Lattice, as well as the ones that have no problems killing to keep this from happening. Shaw is going to have to pick a side, and the world’s future is going to rest with the choice he makes.

Fans of the novel found this to be a stellar sequel, and was just as good as the first novel in the series. The early part of the book built to some awesome surprises before a logical and great ending. Some found that they could not wait to get their hands on the next book, as this one was well written.
