Ben Marney is a professional musician, voice over talent, turned author from the United States. He spent much of his life as a traveling musician before he got into voicing over for a variety of clients across the world. His travels across the globe have had him meet a wide range of interesting people and have a wide range of experiences. While most of his novels are fictional, he asserts that he has met some of the most intriguing and even bizarre people on his journeys. For more than forty years he has been traveling with his wife Dana, touring the globe as entertainers and professional singers. They have been the highlight of many theaters, nightclubs, bars, and major cruise liners such as Oceania, Holand America, RCCL, NCL, Princess, and Disney. Over his decades long career, he has had three records make the charts with Billboard Top 100 singles, owned a music theater, a night club, and been the opening act for artists that include The Gatlin Brothers, Larry Gatlin, Rich Little, David Allen Coe, and Willie Nelson.
In his voice over career, Ben Marney has had some of the biggest clients from Europe and the Americas. He has been the voice for Sportsman networks, Destination America, and Discovery, where he narrated a range of television programs aside from thousands of TV and radio commercials. His voice has been the way he has earned his living for most of his life having debuted into the life as a seventeen-year-old DJ. He went on to become a musician for the best of four decades and later voice over artist which he is still doing. Marney got into writing poetry as he wanted to impress girls as a teenager. Hundreds of songs later, he decided to venture into writing and wrote “Sing Roses For Me” a romantic novel in 2013. “Lyrics of My Life” published in 2017 is a collection of autobiographical and not so autobiographical stories about his life. The novel is inspired by his time in the music industry and feature many of his experiences during his travels across the world. Nowadays he does not perform on ships or bars preferring to write novels and voice over whenever his favorite clients call.
Ben Marney writes fantastic novels that one can totally lose themselves in. He tells compelling stories that take place over a long period though he covers most of them in just a few chapters that may be read in a little over two days. For the most part, he eliminates all the boring bits and only concentrates on telling the interesting parts of the story. He writes strong and twisty plots though the storytelling is one of the major selling points of the novels. To be fair to Marney he can make literally any topic he writes interesting though a little of the noir/dark spices up the novel even more. Ben novels are great with heartbreak, drama, suspense, character development and many more. He is excellent at tying in several story lines together, even when the stories may be a combination of the tragic and romantic. For instance, the hero of Sing Roses for me is sympathetic and flawed while the villain who is quite a monster has the uncanny ability to draw out emotion, despite his evil nature.
“Sing Roses for Me” that is Ben Marney’s debut novel is a tragic love story that involves a psychopathic and powerful judge, a teen child genius, a beautiful dancer, and a fallen country music star. It is a bizarre story about two friends who are out playing on an Ouija board, when the board blurts out a secret that one of them had always wanted to keep secret. The spirit then asks that the friend warn the other that his sister will be murdered. Bradford Doss, Carla Cecil, and Max Allen suddenly find themselves drawn into the mystery of a potential murder and a dark secret that threatens to tear them apart. Max is a washed out country music star who has fallen from grace and is now trying to make the best of his situation by leaving town and moving to the sunny islands, where he hopes to clear his head and decide on a new purpose and direction for his life. On the islands he bumps into a gorgeous cruise ship dancer named Michelle with whom he instantly falls in love. He also meets a Texas State Court Judge known as Bradford Doss that turns out to be a serial murderer. He makes friends with a child genius named Carla Cecil that made history as the youngest ever person to make it into Rice University. She is the next target of the judge.
“Children of the Band” is another excellent novel by Ben Marney. The novel is set in the 1970s where drugs, music, and free love were the order of the day as groupies followed rocks bands from town to town. These are not your contemporary groupies as they would sleep from everyone from the sound guys to the roadies to get a pass backstage or into the after party. FBI Special Agent Joe Jensen had seen it all having been born in the era and traveled with his parent’s rock band. This was not at all unusual since many band members often traveled with their children across the country, seeing that they were often away from home for months on end. At 44 years old, he is one of the most exceptional talents in the FBI and his crazy and wild rock and roll childhood is nothing but a distant memory. But it all comes back to him when he is made the lead of seven cold homicides that stretch back into the 70s. Indefatigable as he always is, he is devastated to find evidence linking a serial murder to a man that he loves to death – his own father. Despite his failings as a father, he has always loved him for the many memories they had together on the road. He is determined to do all in his power to ensure that his father is proved innocent of all the charges, though it is going to be an uphill task given the evidence.
