Largely an author of science-fiction novels, the Canadian novelist Jasper T. Scott is very much a writer rooted firmly within the traditions of his specific genre, whilst simultaneously standing on his own two feet, making the format work for him, ultimately finding something new and interesting in the process. This has seen him reach the top of the bestseller lists on numerous occasion, including that of the highly prestigious USA Today list, leading to him becoming one of the foremost voices currently working within the literary industry today. Following on in a long and illustrious lineage of fellow science-fiction and genre writers, he takes his cues from writers such as Stephen King, Michael Crichton, Michael A. Stackpole and Lisa Gardner, citing them all as highly important and essential influences over the course of his entire writing career so far. Translated into a multitude of different languages worldwide, he has seen his name and brand reach readers from all across the globe, all thanks to his witty and compelling style that draws the reader in on both an emotional and visceral level. Keeping them entertained throughout at every stage, he makes sure to grab them immediately from the very first page, holding their attention right until the very end. This has allowed him to take his work far and wide, reaching readers of all varieties, regardless of their backgrounds, as the material resonates with them. Creating characters that are well drawn too, he doesn’t forget to give his work depth, as he perfectly balances the science-fiction concept alongside well drawn and realistic portrayals of down-to-earth and grounded personalities. This is something that he doesn’t forget to include in his stories, regardless of where in the universe he’s setting the action and letting it take place. With a lot more to come, he really is a creative force that appears not to be stopping any time soon in the near future, as there’s far more planned on the horizon still.
Early and Personal Life
Born in Calgary in Canada, the future writer to be Jasper T. Scott would grow up harboring a strong passion for the written word. Raised by South African parents, with a German cultural history through his father’s side and British lineage through his mother’s, he would gain a wide range of cultural influences whilst growing up. Now living with his wife in the sunshine, he continues to write to this very day, something that shall carry on for some time yet.
Writing Career
It would be in 2012 that he would bring out his first stand-alone title ‘Mrythdom’. Following this he would focus largely on long-running franchises, including ‘Dark Space’ and ‘New Frontiers’, with many of them intersecting over time. He would also write another stand-alone title in 2014 with the novel ‘Escape’, all of which would lead to where he currently is today.
Origin
Released through the Anthem Press publishing label in 2013 on the 23rd of October, this was a novel that was released some time into the career of Jasper T. Scott. With him now already well underway in his career as a fully fledged writer of fast paced science-fiction, it would be a novel that would show him at his best. It would also mark the third title of the much acclaimed ‘Dark Space’ series, making it an integral part of the franchise and a must for any fans of the author.
Showing how good quality science-fiction is really managed, this gets down to entertaining readers in the most engaging manner possible, all whilst developing the story too. With many of the characters returning as well, it really works at taking the story forwards, allowing it to come alive for the reader in the process. The fantastical space setting is also well observed too, as the locations are well used to maximum effect too, with them coming alive almost off the page in extremely vivid detail.
Arrested for high-treason, Ethan and Atton, his son, surely await the death penalty, something which they must face following their being hauled through space. That’s when the Defiant, the ship they’re on, is stranded in Sythian Space and, not only that, but the help vessel sent out by Commander Caldin has also used up all its fuel. Meanwhile, whilst they’re about to die of cold and starvation, Alec Brondi, the most notorious of space crime lords, is currently wiping out Admiral Hoff’s fleet. Will he be able to escape into Dark Space? Is Dark Space still protected from the view of the aliens, and can humanity survive if it isn’t? What will become of them as they discover their origin?
Revenge
Brought out through the Anthem Press publishing outlet once more, this would originally be released in 2017 on the 20th of January. With this also being a part of a long running series, this time being the ‘New Frontiers Trilogy’, this one being the third and final part, this would conclude the series overall. Continuing on from the previous two, it manages to carry on in much the same vein as before, whilst also bringing in some twists and turns along the way.
Once again a straight-forward science-fiction novel, this manages to elevate the action to previously unseen standards, showing a writer clearly at the top of his game. With strong central protagonist leading the action at the heart of the story, it really manages to bring the story to life through their personalities. The emptiness of space is also a factor that weighs extremely heavily throughout, coming into effect at every twist and turn of the story.
It would seem that war looks inevitable and humanity heads to Mars, being forced off the Earth as the androids appear to have taken over. Alongside 70,000 other colonists, Catalina de Leon and Alexander head aboard the Interstellar voyage set for none other than Proxima Centauri. With the journey set to take over nine years in total to reach there, it would seem that a lot could potentially take place, including a fight for survival against mysterious forces. Will humanity survive? Can they last the duration? Who will get their revenge?
