Author Helen Dunmore was born on December 12, 1952 (in Beverley, Yorkshire) and died on June 5, 2017 (in Bristol, England) at the age of 64 of cancer. She was the second of four kids, and her father was the oldest of a dozen kids. Because she was a part of a giant family, she heard a lot of stories, not to mention the fact that the stories have different meanings to whoever hears them and it is possible to recast the stories from different perspectives. She had two kids (one son and a daughter), a stepson, as well as three grand kids when she died. In the year 1980, she was married to Frank Charnley, who is a lawyer.

She was nominated for and won many awards in her time; some include a McKetterick Prize in the year 1994, for the novel “Zennor in Darkness” and the first Orange Prize Winner for her novel “A Spell of Winter” in the year 1996.

She wrote stories for children, teens, and adults. She wrote poetry, short stories, and novels.

She enjoyed poetry from the start of her childhood. First, she would learn all kinds of verse (be they hymns, ballads, or rhymes), before writing her own poems. She used the different forms that she learned, and would write them down much later in life.

She graduated from University of York after studying the subject of English, and taught English in Finland, as a foreign language. It was around this time that she wrote the poetry that would later appear in “The Apple Fall”, which is her first collection of poetry. She completed two novels that never saw the light of day, and it would be another decade until she wrote another one.

It was when she wrote short stories that she saw her first break into fiction. She learned more about prose technique through writing short stories that gave her the confidence to write longer stories.

“Ingo” is the first novel in the “Ingo” series and was released in the year 2005. Sapphire’s dad disappears under mysterious circumstances into the waves near the Cornwall coast, which is where family has lived for a long time.

She misses him a lot, and wants to hear more about the Mer, that live in Ingo, which is an underwater kingdom. Maybe that is why she keeps imagining that she is getting pulled to the sea. Conor, which is her brother, goes missing for hours at a time, and she starts thinking that maybe he too is hearing the ocean’s call.

These are believable characters that Helen has created here in this story and have quite a lot of personality to them. Fans of the novel found this paints a picture unlike any other story does. The image of Cornwall stuck with many, even years after they had read it. And Ingo has darkness to it, but still seems like a nice place to visit.

“Tide Knot” is the second novel in the “Ingo” series and was released in the year 2006. The congested shore of St. Pirans is not at all like the cove from Sapphire’s home, where she was able to find Ingo. She has never felt so far away from the ocean.

Ingo has a strong pull and is always able to find a way. Her and Conor are swimming under the waves once more, riding currents and teasing Faro (who is one of their Mer friends). She gets deeper into Ingo, and even though she is learning more about the dangers of it, she is feeling more and more at home here.

She could go too far in, and break the precarious balance of Sapphire’s life in Ingo and the one she has on land. Her father should never have drowned, he was experience as a sailor. Then Ingo, itself, which seems to be an old and restless power, it is also strong like the tides. It is more dangerous than anything Sapphire has seen before.

Some enjoyed this story more than the first novel, because the story was better in this novel. Fans of the novel enjoy reading about Sapphire, because she seemed very real to them, even if she was annoying, there was something true to them. The thrill of not knowing what is coming is still present in this story. Dunmore is able to depict the Mer’s world in a colorful way that comes from her creative mind.

“The Deep” is the third novel in the “Ingo” series and was released in the year 2007. Sapphire is living in two different worlds. Under the sea, she is able to swim like a fish with Faro; on land she walks on the Cornwall coast.

Both worlds that she lives in are threatened. In the depths of the ocean, a Kraken is stirring. This Kraken can sweep away Ingo and take the land off of its foundation.

With her mixed blood, she is able to go into the Deep. A great whale guides her, she is going to a place that the sun cannot find and face off with an evil that is much darker.

These books are hard to put down, and people cannot wait to find out what happens next. Fans of the novel found this to be an enjoyable read that is worth the time of sitting down to read it. Readers cannot wait to read more from this series. The series is better read as a whole, but it is still possible to enjoy them if you have not read the other books.

“The Crossing of Ingo” is the fourth novel in the “Ingo” series and was released in the year 2008. Sapphire, Conor, Elvira, and Faro are ready to make the Crossing of Ingo, their odyssey that only the strongest of the young Mer are asked to do.

No human has ever had the chance to try such a voyage to the world’s bottom. Ervys and the sharks (followers and new recruits alike) are bound and determined to stop Sapphire and Conor by any means, they can live or die, it does not matter to them.

The ending is something that will make some cry when they get to it. Either you will like Conor or Sapphire, as they are different enough to like one or the other, or maybe both. Fans felt that they were on the journey with Sapphire the entire series long, something that they really enjoyed about the series.

   I have been recommended books by Helen and would like to know if there is particular order the World war 11 books should be read please.
