Daniel H. Wilson is New York Times bestseller author of Young Adult, Science Fiction and Thriller novels. Apart from writing books, Wilson is a robotics engineer, television host and an editor to Resident Roboticist, a popular mechanics magazine. His famous award-winning novels include, Where’s My Jetpack?, How to Survive a Robot Uprising and How to Build a Robot Army.
In 1996, Wilson graduated from High School, and in 2000 he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science at the University of Tulsa. He completed an M.S. in Machine Learning, another M.S. in Robotics and his Ph.D. in Robotics in 2005. Wilson has worked as a research intern at the Xerox PARC, Microsoft Research, Intel Research Seattle, and Northrop Grumman.
Wilson’s books have won and also been nominated for various awards. The American Library Association chose How to Survive Robot Uprising as the most popular paperback for Young Adults in 2007. The same novel won a Rave Award awarded by Wired. Robopocalypse was an LA Times bestseller, New York Times bestseller and also a winner of Alex Awards awarded by Young Adult Library Services Association. Wilson was a featured guest of honor during the Capricorn 33 sci-fi convention held in Chicago.
Over five Wilson’s books have been optioned for film adaptations. For example, How to Survive a Robot Uprising, a book that Wilson published during his final year of graduate school was optioned for adaptation into a film by Paramount Pictures. The same movie company also considered a How to Build Robot Army for possible adjustment. Unfortunately, these two options expired. The first option was later re-optioned by Steve Pink and Jack Black in October 2010.
Nickelodeon Movies optioned Bro-Jitsu before its publication, and Wilson was hired to write the screenplay.
Wilson sold his second book, Robocalypse to Doubleday. However a day before the rights to the book were purchased, the author sold the film rights to DreamWorks SKG. In November 2010, Wilson sold his book Amped to Doubleday and the film rights to the book were sold to Summit Entertainment. In 2014, the author’s short story was adapted into a short film by the same name which premiered on Jun 19, 2014, during the Palm Springs International Shortfest.
Robopocalypse
Robopocalypse is the first book in a two-book series by Daniel H. Wilson. The series is set shortly, a time when all the technology that man has lived to treasure will rise against the humanity. The technology unites taking the form of a young shy human boy, but a compelling artificial intelligence known as Archos comes online and takes control over the global network responsible for regulating everything ranging from transportation, defense, and communication.
Several months before the awakening of Archos, several glitches are noticed by several unconnected humans- first being a single mother disturbed by her daughter’s annoying smart toys, the lonely Japanese bachelor who is continuously victimized by his domestic robot to the United States soldiers who witnesses a pacification unit go topsy-turvy. At this time, most people are unaware of the growing rebellion until a time when it is too late.
When the robots war sparks- at a time later known as Zero Hour, humankind will be both destroyed and for the first time in history united. Robocalypse is a well-woven action-filled adventure set shortly. It is quite engaging and entertaining thriller unlike and one of the best novels written in years. Think of the movies such as War of the Worlds, and the Terminator featuring Tom Cruise and Arnold Schwarzenegger respectively, these are the only movies that one would dare compare to Robopocalypse. However, the only slight difference between these is that in Robopocalypse there is not a horde of killing robots but only a single artificial intelligence controlling millions of mindless robots which come in all different shapes and sizes, including cars, photocopying machines, elevators, etc.
Several factors make this book an intriguing one. For instance, the science is vividly explained. The author’s writing style is one of the best. Wilson gives the readers glimpses into the lives of several characters as Zero Hour approaches. These mini-stories form a more significant part of the overall book. The story is also written in chapters from the different point of views thus providing the reader firm grasps of the whole story.
Robogenesis
Robogenesis is the second book in Robocalypse series by Daniel H. Wilson. In this second book, we learn that the humankind has triumphed in a war with the machines. However, somehow Archos has survived spreading now to the far reaches of the world. His machine code has fragmented into millions of copies and now appears to be hiding and regrouping.
In a series of connected narratives, this second installment delves into the fates of old and new, robotic and human as they the fight to create a modern world in the aftermath of a devastating war. Readers will witness survivors unite with their kin and friends, merge into groups and react to a deadly technological landscape. During this period, the remnants of Archos fragmented intelligence are trickling more in-depth into the new breeds of machines preparing for a war that not the humankind has ever witnessed.
Before the AI was destroyed, it was trying to get a deeper understanding of humanity. It had mastered the art of capturing a human mind. Archos had many copies of his code secretly hidden in caches all over the world and now that code is again awakening. It is also revealed that there is an earlier version of Archos known as the Arayt Shah which believes that the True War is a war between artificial intelligences.
The second title in the series is split into three parts that are based on the three characters that were also present in the first title. These characters are Mathilda Perez, Cormac Wallace, and Lark Iron Cloud. There are also characters in the first book that are also featured in this book, but there are also new characters as well. Apparently, the story is fast pace and the plot in this second title appears to be more polished and quite intriguing.
