Jim Harrison is an American author who was best known for his fiction, poetry, writing about food, essays about outdoors and reviews. Despite publishing several works, Harrison is best known for the Legends of the Fall. Many at times, Jim Harrison has been referred to as a force of nature, and his publications have been compared to that of Ernst Hemingway and William Faulkner. The characters that Jim Harrison tends to create tend to be rural by birth and also retain some of the agrarian revolution qualities, which in some way explains their common sense and rugged sense of intelligence. These characters attune themselves to the civilized and natural world. Born in Grayling, Michigan, Jim Harrison’s father served as a county agricultural agent. After a childhood accident, Jim Harrison became blind in one eye. In the year 1956, Jim Harrison graduated from Haslett School in Michigan. When he turned 21 years, both his father and sister passed away in a motor vehicle accident.
In the year 1959, Jim Harrison got married to one Linda King, with whom they were blessed with two daughters. In the year 1960, Harrison graduated from Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts and in the year 1964, with a Masters of Arts in Comparative Literature. After working for a short period as an assistant professor, at the State Brook University, between the year 1965 and 1966, Jim Harrison began working as a full-time author. Due to his excellent writing skills, Jim Harrison was awarded several awards including a National Academy of Arts Grants in the year 1967, 1968 and 1969, the Spirit of the West Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship award and an appointment to American Arts Academy. Harrison’s work was featured in several publications including Esquire, Sports Illustrated, Outside, Playboy, New York Times Review and Men’s Journal. Jim Harrison has also published several other novellas, Legends of the Fall and Revenge, which have all been adapted for a screenplay.
A majority of his work is set in the sparsely populated regions of the West and North America regions. Some of these places include Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Nebraska’s Sand Hills and Montana’s mountains. Throughout his life, Jim Harrison has resided in different locales including Livingstone, Arizona, and Patagonia. In the year 2009, Jim Harrison was featured in the television show No Reservations, which was set in Livingston.

Dalva
Dalva is a brilliantly written novel by Jim Harrison. Dalva is the main character in the novel Dalva. She is in her mid-forties and resides in Santa Monica, where she works as a social worker. However, as the narrative progresses, the readers realise that the Dalva we meet is not the person that she used to be. Dalva is the granddaughter to a famous missionary and horticulturist. The grandfather was more of a convert to the Sioux. The grandfather took a young Sioux woman and made her his wife. However, in the end, the grandfather found himself at the center of Sioux destruction and eventually under the hands of the US military. His father was in possession of great pieces of land. Thus, apart from having a rich history, Dalva is also plain rich. As the narrative progresses, Dalva decides to return to her family home in search for her daughter, whom she had conceived many years ago with her sixteen-year-old boyfriend.
Michael, an alcoholic English professor tags along. He has just been granted the rights to publish the personal letters that were written by Dalva’s grandfather.
The author, Jim Harrison lets the protagonist narrate the first half of the novel, while Michael takes the remaining bit. Jim Harrison has also included long passages from the journals that belonged to Northbridge. Thus, what initially began as a disarmingly prim and an unexceptional story eventually becomes the opposite. Author Jim Harrison writes brilliantly as she navigates through her current life, as she remembers events, which happened more than forty years ago, which made her to be the person she is today. Michael, on the other hand, is a comical and annoying academician. Despite having an annoying personality, author Jim Harrison still invests in him heavily with pathos, a wry wit and some deep revelations about Delva and her family.
The English Major
In the English Major, author Jim Harrison introduces the readers to Cliff, a 60-year-old ex-teacher and farmer. Cliff took a break from his teaching career after his wife left him. His wife decides to sue him, and wins the case. In the process, Cliff losses everything including his farm. Immediately after the divorce, Cliff decides that it is a high time for him to get into his car and visit all the 50 states. The main reason why Cliff decides to visit all the fifty states is that he has been a teacher and farmer for the most of his life. Thus he did not have the time to travel a lot. His first stop is Morris, Minnesota, where he visits one of his students from his days as a teacher. Cliff had maintained contact with the student through mails. Now, his student is 48 years old and is a phone addict. She decides to take cliff to a small town which is located a few meters from Montana.
In the small town, her husband has been working as an archaeologist. Along the way, Cliff discovers that his student is a roaring sex enthusiast and it does not take long before he finds himself relieving a fantasy. He is eventually forced to purchase a cell phone by his new companion. Furthermore, his new girlfriend begins to call him after every half an hour. His son also gets hold of the number and begins to call him as well. His son who is an admitted gay resides in San Francisco, where he works in the movie industry. His job is to scout for sets for several upcoming movies.
Cliff has been brilliantly developed. Author Jim Harrison is widely known for his ability to bring all of his characters to life such that the reader can imagine meeting them in real life and even joining them in the local bar for a drink.

I have read and purchased many of his books-for the life of me I can not locate the book about the protagonist who starts in Key West and ends up in Montana addressing a “new” dam. Can you help me with the title?
