A highly accessible author with a worldwide following, the American writer Shana Galen has been writing for a number of years now. Focusing largely on Regency romps she is also highly adept at contemporary romance novels, with a gift for building characters that resonate. Understanding and knowing her audience, she is able to provide her readers with what they want, whilst simultaneously not sacrificing her own voice in the process.
Early and Personal Life
Born and raised in Michigan on the 25th of December, the author to be Shane Bolks was born on in 1972. This would then see her become both a voracious reader and writer, as she would continually come back to writing time-and-time again throughout the years. She would also concentrate on building her voice as an author, honing and sharpening it in the following years to come.
Managing this throughout her education as well, she would constantly be broadening her perspective as an author. Studying psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, she would also go on to get a BA in the subject, along with a Master of Education, which she gained from the University of Houston. Over time this would allow her to gain the insight needed to create her characters, as well as build upon her ideas.
Working as a teacher in a secondary school for some time prior to becoming an author full-time, she would constantly work on her writing as well. This experience would also provide her with much of the material needed in becoming a writer too, giving her a unique perspective into how people think. It would also allow her to articulate herself and her work, taking it forwards with a fresh and highly distinctive perspective.
Currently still writing full-time, she has built herself a strong profile both offline and on, with a number of blogs written in her name too. Taking up the pen-name of Shana Galen, she has become one of the most prolific figures working within her field to date. Living in Texas with her family, she doesn’t show signs of stopping any time soon either, as her writing career grows day-by-day.
Writing Career
Bringing out her first book in 2005, she made her debut onto the literary scene with the book ‘The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Men I’ve Dated’. This was published under her own name, as it managed to herald the arrival of an exciting new talent to the world of publishing. Working as a stand-alone book it would also go on to win awards, turning a number of heads in the process as well.
Later going on to write a number of series too, she would create a lot of franchises under her pseudonym of Shana Galen. These included series such as ‘The Misadventures of in Matrimony Series’, the ‘Sons of Revolution’ series, the ‘Jewels of the Ton’ franchise, and the ‘Regency Spy’ series. Largely these were historical romances, as they followed along a particular set of themes and ideas, ones which Galen would come to be closely associated with as time went on.
Writing under a number of different names, she has applied her style to a variety of different genres throughout her career. Her real name is Shane Bolks, but she writes her historical romances and series under the pen-name of Shana Galen. This has allowed her to create a brand in of itself over the years, one which her many fans worldwide have warmed to.
Garnering awards throughout her time as a writer, she has also gained attention from the critics as well. This seen her becoming a finalist for awards such as the RITA award for ‘best first book’ back in 2005 for her debut. She would also final in 2004 with the ‘Golden Heart Competition’ with the ‘Romance Writer’s of America’ that year.
Still writing to this very day, she manage to put out work at a regular and ever consistent pace, under her own name and her pen-names. Seen as one of the leading voices within her field, she is widely credited for moving the genre forwards as a whole. With a lot more set to be released on the near horizon this looks set to be a trend that will carry on into the foreseeable future for some time to come yet.
The Pirate Takes A Bride
Initially brought out in 2014 on the 2nd of May, this was brought out by Shana Galen herself under her own pen-name. Marking the fourth installment in the long-running ‘Misadventures in Matrimony’ series of novels, it continued in much the same vein as the previous titles. Following on thematically, they would work as stand-alone stories that that worked on their own, whilst providing the reader with what they’d come to expect.
Being married to the only man she well and truly despises, Ashley Brittany feels that she is living within a waking nightmare. Apparently a mistake she was robbed of her virtue being thrown aside, leaving her to plot her revenge, whilst attempting to keep her secret. The only problem is that Nick Martingale has a secret of his own in that he is none other than Captain Robin Hood; sworn protector of the innocent. Will their secrets come out? Can Nick uphold his vows? What will happen when the pirate takes a bride?
The Rogue Pirate’s Bride
Released by ‘Sourcebooks Casablanca’ this time, this was set to be the third title in the ongoing ‘The Sons of the Revolution’ series. Originally published in February 2012, it would work as part of a trilogy of novels set around three brothers dealing with their heritage. Set in the aftermath of the French Revolution, they were well researched and well thought out in their approach to the subject matter.
Set in France in 1802, this would see Sebastien Harcourt, also known as the Marquis de Velere, escaping France in a privateer’s ship. It’s here that he becomes the notorious Captain Cutlass, as he comes up against Raeven Russell, the beautiful daughter of a British admiral. Looking to avenge his mentor’s death Sebastien only has revenge on his mind, as she also aims to avenge her fiance’s death. Will their passion quell their anger? Can they overcome their obstacles? What will become of the rogue pirate’s bride?
