A bestselling American author, Sharon Lathan is well regarded within her field as a writer of romance novels and historical fiction, largely due to her perceptive and astute nature, something which translates well into her profession as an author, with her writing that portrays the period that they’re set within with a high-degree of accuracy, along with her well drawn characterizations.
Over the years this has allowed her to follow in the footsteps of writers such as Jane Austen, a literary figure who has been a huge influence on both her and her life over the years, as she incorporates many of her themes and ideas into her own style of writing. This has even been taken to the point of writing follow-ups to Jane Austen’s much beloved characters, as she takes them forward and depicts what they did next, something which has seen her gain a worldwide following over the years. All of this along with her own original stories and iconic characters inserted into the classic narratives, many of whom have also found a huge amount of success throughout the course of her career. Crafting a unique and idiosyncratic take on the genre of classic romance in a period setting, she has made it entirely her own, creating a new style in the process.
A spokesperson for the writing of Jane Austen on a national level, she is also a member of the ‘Jane Austen Society of North America’, a position which has also brought her the attention of the wider reading public at large too. Essentially coming from a background of ‘fan-fiction’ by her own volition, she has managed to elevate the art-form, giving it an even greater level of prestige, as she managed to get published, all before making it as a bestselling author on a national and international level.
Early and Personal Life
Born in Pascagoula, Missouri, in the United States, the future bestselling author to be Sharon Lathan always had a dream of becoming a major writer and publishing sensation, largely thanks to her love and passion of the written word. Working as a registered-nurse from the age of twenty-one, she then spent over thirty years focusing on Neonatal Intensive Care, as she undertook her profession in the medical industry for quite some time. All this time spent working with people gave her an insight into character quite unlike any other, something which was transferred over to her work, making it come alive essentially for the reader.
Knowing and understanding the genre of contemporary romance and its place within modern culture, she was able to take her love of the craft and fully realize her dream of becoming a writer. After seeing the film ‘Pride and Prejudice’ in the cinema in 2005, she was left with a warm feeling and she finally knew what she wanted to do as a writer and how to make it happen. Currently living in Kentucky, America, she moved there in 2013 following her life as a native resident of California, as she continues to write and publish work full-time to this present day.
Writing Career
It was in the month of February 2009 that her first book ‘Mr. and Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy: Two Shall Become One’ was published by ‘Sourcebook Landmark’. This then marked the beginning of a long and illustrious writing career largely focusing on Jane Austen lead novels, as she produced the long-running ‘Mr. and Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy’ series of novels. She later followed this up with the ‘Darcy Saga Prequel’ series, a collection of books set to delve into the past of Mr. Darcy as an iconic leading character in literature.
Quickly amassing a large following, Sharon Lathan soon managed to achieve the bestselling status that she had always dreamed of, as she was a success with both the critics and the general public alike. Not only that, but she would also become a major figurehead for the Jane Austen Society of North America, thus propelling the status of the classic author forwards, whilst also bringing her work to a whole new audience. Living with her husband of over thirty years they both have a fully grown son, as she now focuses on writing full-time, something which shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
