An American author, Scott William Carter has come to be known as an extremely versatile author over the years. Largely focusing on mystery and fantasy novels though, he has managed to carve a niche within the young adult field. Winning awards for his work he has made a brand for himself by being one of the most prolific writers at the forefront of his field to date. With a style that is unique and entirely his own he has taken the conventions of the mystery novel and transformed them into something new and different, as he continues to reinvent the genre.
Early and Personal Life
Born in Minnesota the author to be Scott William Carter grew up with a strong fascination in both reading as well as writing. Raised in Willamette Valley in Oregon, he would take in a lot during his formative years, constantly putting it back into his work and material. Always looking for new ideas he would work on refining his skills throughout the many years to follow in his career.
It was in 1994 that he graduated from the University of Oregon whereby he gained a Bachelor of Arts in English. This would provide him with the tools necessary in taking his writing career forwards successfully in the years come. Prior to writing full-time he would also undertake a variety of other jobs, during which time he’d continue to write and develop his style.
Working as a ski-instructor as well as a computer trainer before becoming a writer, he would always be searching for material. It was during his time owning a book-store that he became particularly familiar with the craft, always learning new tips for himself. Starting out with short-stories he soon progressed to long-form fiction novels, as he then became a full-time writer thus achieving his life-long ambition.
Currently writing to this very day he carries on putting out work and novels at a regular and ever consistent pace. Living with his family in Oregon in the United States, he lives with his wife and their two children; a son and a daughter. With much more to come yet it seems that he’s not stopping anytime soon either, as with career growing from strength-to-strength.
Writing Career
Bringing out his first book back in 2010 Scott William Carter made his debut with the stand-alone title ‘The Last Great Getaway of the Water Balloon Boys’. This was a young-adult novel which subsequently won awards too, as well as establishing his name as an author. Later that year he would also go on to write ‘The Gray and Guilty Sea’, which was to be the first in his ongoing series of ‘Garrison Gage’ novels.
Writing a number of series, Scott William Carter is well known for the variety of franchises that he currently has under his belt. Starting with his Garrison Gage series in 2010 following a private-investigator of which there are four books in total so far, he also wrote the ‘Myron Vale Investigations’ series as well. Both following along similar lines they manage to provides straight-forward mystery novels that engage and entertain the reader.
Receiving acclaim from both the critics and the general public alike, he also gained awards for his efforts too, such as the Oregon Book Award for his debut novel. Respected by both his many peers and contemporaries he has also garnered a multitude of favorable reviews for his work too. With readers discovering his work everyday his audience continues to grow both nationally and internationally.
Being a highly prolific figure on the scene he still has a lot of potential to continue developing in the years to come. Maintaining a strong presence both online and off, he is a very vocal advocate for both him along with his craft. This is expected to continue on into the future, as there’s a lot more set on the horizon regarding his forthcoming novels.
A Shroud of Tattered Sails
Brought out through the ‘Flying Raven Press’ publishing label in 2015 upon the 26th of December, this was set to be the fourth title in the ongoing ‘Garrison Gage’ series of novels. Continuing with another adventure for the eponymous hero, it follows Garrison Gage as he undertakes another mystery to solve. Following on in much the same vein as the previous novels, it provides more of what the audience have now come to expect, along with some twists and turns of its own along the way.
With a missing man along with a beached sail-boat it seems that there is a mystery afoot, especially after a highly distressed woman finds herself staggering ashore too. Stepping onto the scene is one Garrison Gage, a private-investigator who aims to get to the bottom of this particular case. The woman apparently has no memory, but she may not be telling the whole truth, and then a body washes ashore along with more questions. Where did the man go? What really happened to the woman? Can Gage find out the truth behind a shroud of tattered sails?
The Ghost, the Girl, and the Gold
Setting up the third book in the ongoing ‘Myron Vale Investigations’ series of novels, this was also brought out through the ‘Flying Raven Press’ publishing house. Released on October the 8th in 2016, this arrived to much acclaim given that the previous titles has already amassed a following. Providing another case-file for the eponymous Myron Vale, it continues on from the titles before, as well as being set firmly in the mystery novel mold.
The ghost detective Myron Vale is a little put-off when Laura and John Ray arrive into his office in the hope of locating their missing daughter with no clues or money. Finding out that their daughter had abilities of her own, though, he quickly finds himself developing a sense of kinship with her and her plight. It is in his search for the young Olivia Ray that he finds himself coming up against a powerful and dangerous personality though, one which could threaten everyone around him. Will he be able to find the girl? Can he keep himself safe long enough to do so? What really happened ot the ghost, the girl, and the gold?
